The fans love him. He hit pretty well in his debut with the team (although - despite the fact that he has had high BABIP everywhere he goes, his BABIP was like a ridiculous .380-something, and this is while hitting 40% fly balls).

Hermida got the first chance to prove himself, and now that he's DFA'd Kalish gets the first crack at major league action. Is this just a matter of seeing if Kalish is ready to join the big leagues next year? Or does the FO believe that Nava is really not much more than a AAAA player? Or do they want him to get more seasoning in the minors?

Kalish is one of our top prospects. Nava not getting the call over Kalish is understandable. As I understand it the only reason Nava was called up earlier was because they weren't sure Kalish was ready.

Nava isn't AAAA, I think he's established that he has MLB upside in his short stint with the team, although what he does with it over a bigger sample size is still up in the air. I can see him making the bench next year, and then where he goes is based on what he does with his chances/

So do you think it's just a matter of the FO having seen all they needed to from Nava, and now giving Kalish/others a chance to figure out where they stand for next year?

Actually that sounds about right.

100% sure well see Nava in September, and he'll get a chance to audition then. It's time to see what Kalish is though. I see some Damon-like qualities there that I'd like to see get a chance to pan out.

It has been said that Kallish is here to sub for Cameron. He's supposed to be a very good CF. McDonald is better suited for LF, apparently.

If it where up to me. Which of course it's not. I'd bring Nava up also, and send Cameron packing. Or Patterson. Both are absolutely worthless. Set my outfiled with Drew, Kalish, Nava, Mcdonald. Although Ellsbury comes back next week. So somebody is on the way out soon.

Cameron has about $9 million and 1+ seasons left on his contract. Plus, Cameron will have corrective surgery in the offseason to fix his abdominal hernia. Pretty sure the Cameron you will see next yr will be different, albeit 1 yr older, than the gimpy one plodding through games right now

Good question. The answer may be a symptom of roster politics on the Red Sox.

Another good question is why Lowell hasn't been platooning with Papi at DH? Papi has hit good this year against RHP, but his performance against LHP has been atrocious: BA .198, OPS .550 (approx.). Those kind of numbers are unacceptable for a DH making $12.5Million.

Yes, sir. Roster politics can kill a team. Especially in a division with NY and TB.

That is excellent! Nava and Kalish need to be playing. Injecting some talent and youth to the outfield is a good thing. Cameron has not been right all season anyway.

I'm glad Cameron finally went on DL, he was playing injured and needs some rest. I think he should just sit out for rest of season and try to come back as close to 100% next year as possible.

Tito just said that surgery possible before end of season but he will try rest first

Cameron should go under the knife so he stands the best chance of returning early next season and being productive.

Nava's latest tenure in Boston may be short lived as Ellsbury is likely to be activated Thursday or Friday.

Maybe they'll dump Patterson, but I don't thinks so because Nava still has options.

We'll see.

I believe they also want to bring up Bowden and Doubront to work out of the bullpen. Either Nava or Kalish will get sent down sooner or later, IMO.

Nava back up replacing Cameron.

It's one thing to be unlucky with injuries, it's another to prolong the agony by misjudging the injury. Seems to have happened to both Cameron and Ellsbury--2/3 of their starting outfield out for most of the season so far. And Cameron probably done. Abdominals can last forever.

So maybe the OF willl be Drew, Ellsbury, Kalish, McDonald and Nava for t he rest of the season. That would be my top 5. Kalish and Nava both strike me as guys who can hit at any level. Just a hunch. Wish Ellsbury would get those Bora$$ stars out of his head and play ball.

It isnt that abdominals can last forever, it is that abdominal hernias will last forever until fixed. Surgery knocks him out for 6 weeks minimum, with most guys needing 2-3 months to fully recover. Meaning his season would be over. If Drew and Ellsbury were in tip top shape when he was first diagnosed, my guess is that he would have had the surgery. But with the rotating doors in the OF, he toughed it out and probably tore the hernia a bit more. This will end up being a lost season for him, but after surgery he should be pretty healthy for next season
