We can talk about everything in the MLB regarding trades.

I am pretty bummed the Sox did not jump all over Scott Podsednik. He is way better than Hermida and Patterson. I hope Theo can find a decent OFer.

With that being sad, do any of you guys think the Sox really need a good OFer before the trade deadline?

Also Peralta is on his way to the Tigers for a minor leaguer' date=' Giovanni Soto if I recall correctly.[/quote']

Yea hes a pitcher and has like a 2.63 ERA

And another thing (assuming that this threads will eventually be combined), the Bluejays wanted Casey Kelly or Jose Iglesias for Scott Downs. They wanted Joba Chamberlain from the Yankees.

Where did you hear that?? Kelly and Iglesias is a lot for Downs.

Kelly OR Iglesias. The Sox would never even consider packaging both unless it were a Fielder/Gonzalez type player.

I've heard the Iglesias rumor. Maybe J.P. Ricciardi is still in charge of the Blue Jays.

Also I realized no one answered your original question, lol. I think the outfield would be fine if it were Nava playing instead of Hermida. Or McDonald starting over Hermida whenever possible. Depending on how long Drew is out, we might be seeing this horrific three-headed monster of Hermida/Patterson/McDonald at some point in the next two weeks, until Ellsbury is back. But I wouldn't want to send a prospect for a two-week rental.

@CoachC I don't think the writer of that article did his HW, Kelly hasn't played shortstop since last season and is pitching full time.

Not sure why we have to make a trade of an OF bat. Jermaine Dye and Gary Sheffield are still FA. Either one might help us out.

Please tell me you are either making a weak joke or have recently ingested one of the various hallucenogenic substances available to the average citizen.

What the hell is your problem lately? Its not exactly unreasonable, as washed up as Dye/Sheffield are, they'd still be an improvement over Hermida/Patterson.

There is no problem. YOTN and SCM have known each other for 5 years. I'm confident that SCM is aware of YOTN's posting style and humor.

Is Sheffield playing anywhere now? Or is he out of the game like Dye? If he is not playing, then he would need about a month of MiLB to prepare to play in MLB. That would mean he would be available near the beginning of September. What do the Sox do in the mean time? In September, Ellsburry will be back and the Sox can expand the roster to include Nava, Kalish, Reddick, Bell, Lin, etc..

Why bother?

This team has had a "why bother" attitude all season-- how many times has the outfield been Hermida/Reddick/Mcdonald or Nava/Patterson/Hall? Drew's out, Cameron has been day-to-day for a month now, Ellsbury will not come back and immediately be an impact player, and for some reason Hermida has been playing every day. After watching Hermida and Patterson's lack of effort the last few days, its pretty clear the team needs a boost, and even if they don't want to lose prospects, a veteran bat will still help their team. What, could they really be any worse than Hermida's .205 BA?

I wouldn't mind starting Hall and/or McDonald in the OF. Or Nava. Problem is, Hall is needed at second while J.D. and Cameron happen to go down...

Regardless of Ellsbury's bat when he comes back (I think he's rehabbing through like two weeks of minor league games?), he'll be starting as much as possible, if only to get him accustomed to playing again.

There is no problem, as I do know YOTN.

....and I was serious, Sheffield today still scares the s*** out of me if hes up against a Sox pitcher with any runners on inside the bandbox. Neither him if Dye are much worse than Hermidia. Hermidia cant hit or field. Dye and Sheffield just have the no field thing working against them. They might still be able to hit a little. Not sure they would "need" a month to get ready. Its not like they are preparing for the regular season, just get a handful of AB's.

Would it really be that bad of a move to carry the guys around when rosters expand? Its a zero risk transaction that does not cost them anything but a little money.
