20 homers in the 2nd half would be tough imo. He barely cracked 20 back when he was in his prime.

Not true, he has hit for a bit more power in the 2nd half over his career.

2003: 21 HR in 2nd half

2004: 18 HR

2005: 26 HR

2006: 23 HR

2007: 21 HR

2008: 10 HR* injury shortened year

2009: 16 HR

As I said before, 30 HR is a huge reach. I think 20-25 is reasonable if he can avoid another big slump.

The Celebrity Softball game looks like a Home Run Derby. Jennie Finch is serving up some bombs. I think he's given up 4 in one inning' date=' the latest coming from MC Hammer.[/quote']

She prolly never even gave up back to back in her career.

Those stats proved what I said to be true. Aside from smashing 26 in the 2nd half one year, 21 and 23 homers is "barely cracking" 20 in my view. You gotta remember that he's no longer in his prime and he's going to wear down more easily.

It was nice to see Hanley FINALLY hitting behind Ortiz. *sigh*

Would you rather have the 07 ring or a SS that doesn't always play hard. Scutaro is a great SS for us right now. Fits right in as a hard nose player like Youk and Pedey.

The problem with Hanley is that he's a hall of fame potential player... on the Marlins. I get the feeling if he was surrounded by guys like Pedroia, Youk, Lester etc, he wouldn't feel like such a diva.

Also, Ortiz says he wants a multi-year extension next year. I didn't realize it before, but he has an OPS of .945, which is actually better than his career average.

There were questions about his work ethic when he was in the Sox system, and he played with Pedroia and Lester in Portland.

yeah, i was just kidding with the 30 home runs. it's a running joke to make ridiculous predictions followed by the phrase "book it"

What he wants and what he'll get are two different things. Offering a 35 year old of his size and weight a multi-year (which I read as "3-year") extension IMHO has a better chance of being a mistake than of not being a mistake.

I wasn't talking necessarily about work ethic, but more of player stature. Playing with two guys in double A is very different from playing with an MVP and a yearly Cy Young contender.

Its hard to argue with a .950 OPS. Two years with an option for a third seems pretty reasonable to me, especially since he's been healthy, but they could be regretting that kind of deal by next May, so who knows.

it all depends what he does in the second half

DAVID ORTIZ WINS THE DERBY!!!!!!!

It's all because of Suns.

Big Papi should send Suns some dugout box seats.
