We typically do not know about these signees until July 2nd, but we all knew Gary Sanchez was signing prior to that time last yr and we got a little nugget yesterday on the topic. It looks like Javier Pimental already has a deal in place with NY. Pimental is a strong framed SS with an advanced bat for his 16 yr old age. Typically rated in the top 10 and in the group of 4 SS's in the upper eschelon of this yrs class with Alberto Triunfel, Roughned Oder, and Martin Peguero. Peguero is considered the best in the class

So I made this thread nearly two months ago and in that time, the Yankees only signed one player who isnt even worth mentioning. The problem this yr is two-fold. PEDs and age related issues. A lot of players arent eligible right away, so teams had to wait. And the top player in the INTL ranks, Heredia out of Mexico has a Mexican team stating that they own his rights, something that his family is disputing in court. Regardless, a lot of news was expected on this front and none has come...until today.

NYY signed a toolsy Dominican SS by the name of Christopher Tamarez for $650K. Don't have much other info, but that's a pretty big bonus. More details to follow

Lin can't void the contract.... only the yankees can. Which why would they? If they do all free agents and ifa would want their contracts voided if someone else offered more money.

DePaula is showcasing himself this weekend, will sign shortly after it. Yankees are still in on him, he'd be a nice get. Finish it off with Odor and we'd have a great IFA period.

I agree. I like the Tamarez signing, as in Instructs he looks like a ballplayer, although raw. Romero is the best get thus far as he has the now power and the body for future improvement that scouts rave about. DePaula has the best arm in the FA class, and IIRC, Odor was the #2 ranked SS in the rankings. I hope beyond hope that we can get the last 2 and close out an incredible signing period

Have been reading a lot about this kid. Doesnt sound like a CFer. He apparently has a cannon for an arm but has shown a lot of struggles with his routes to the ball in the OF. But his hit ability is unquestionable. Frankie Piliere had him #10 out of the DR in May, but said he was a late bloomer. All reports on his bat are plus in both directions. The Yankees obviously were high on him and from the sounds of it, will probably have him skip over the Dominican leagues altogether

More on Depaula's stuff, he sits around 92-93mph and has hit as high as 97 in tryouts. He throws a plus breaking ball and a pretty advanced change for an INTL FA from the Dominican. Even though he will be 20 for the upcoming season, I expect the Yankees to proceed as if he is a HS draftee. He will likely start the yr in the GCL and go from there. That being said, if this kid can avoid getting hurt, he has ace type potential with the frame to add velocity as he gets stronger. This is a humongous signing.

And for Meh, I think they are done. They signed Tamarez for $650K at SS. They signed Romero for somewhere northward of $1 mil and they got DePaula for $700K. Typically, they make one major offensive splash, then one solid pitching splash and divvy up about $500K between 2 or 3 more guys. This yr, they went with 3 high bonuses in a FA period that was weak. Wait until next yr. The 2011 IFA period should be loaded as should be the draft

Oh, and per scout.com, he officially signed his contract at 4pm yesterday. He is ours

Pretty happy with the overall haul here. Been reading up on Tamarez and some of the scouts had him listed as the #1 SS in the DR over Odor and Peguero. Sounds like he has 4 tools at least with a good glove, plus speed, a good arm and a quick bat. Power will be late to the game.

Wilmer Romero was a top 10 IFA, and after Vazquez and de la Cruz, he was the best OF available. His bat is top 3 in the entire process, he loses a bit due to his poor route running in the OF.

Then DePaula, who is the most polished pitcher out there with the best stuff. He was #1 last yr until his scandal hit. Now, he's Yankee property and should start to show off some of that top velocity.

So the Yankees hauled in one of the top IF's, OF's, and pitchers in this IFA period. It's a good haul and looks good for the upcoming IFA period where the depth is supposed to be impressive

Anyone have any info on the 2011 IFA class? Last year seemed kind of meh and it was suppose to be pretty deep.

Yanks inked a Cuban SS prospect

A mature prospect who'll be 27 (or so) later this year, Cuban Yadil Mujica is a contact hitter with plus speed, good range and a plus arm from shortstop. In his last year in Cuba, he hit .358/.432/.440, that average enough for twelfth-best in the league (modern Cuban baseball is hitter-friendly, which explains why so few Cuban pitchers stick in MLB.)

His future depends mightily on the organization that signs him, but he'd be a good fit on a number of teams, especially West Coast ones, and should get chance as at least a bench option in 2011 If he gets a minor league assignment, he could emerge as a starting candidate for 2012.
