The sox could view it as a win-win here. Improve his value by strengthening their biggest weakness

Considering he was the Sox's #2 prospect for like a year and a half, projecting at a major league #2 or 3 starter, I don't think stopping him when he was streaking in Pawtucket really raised his value. And if he IS any good in the bullpen, why trade him away when that's something the team crucially needs?

anyone from Kansas City (except Soria),

Frankly, this terrifies me. I'm afraid we might bring Kyle Farnsworth to Boston in exchange for actual talent.

Putting scrubs like Wake and Bowden in the pen isn't going to help, Theo needs to trade for someone. And I hope he doesn't BS people about this being a bridge year b/c the bullpen will need help next year too; add a guy that will be here as more than a 1/2 year rental.

Name a guy and say what you'd be willing to pay.

Blow it up.

Except Bard.

Not saying Papelbon sucks (I would like to keep him) or anything of that nature, just dont think the Sox will pay his contract demands moving forward.

There are too many holes in the bullpen to fill, even if we make a deal, we still have weaknesses. Bard and whomever we get, if we get someone, can't pitch every game. That leaves the middle inninngs wide open to be blown by Delcarmen, Okajima, and Rameriz. We need to add several more arms in order to sure up the pen, and even if you do that, there is still the big risk that Papelbon just blows the game in the end.

Nunez is the only viable option there.

I'm on record saying they should trade Papelbon.

Keep Bard, Ramirez and maybe Oki. Everyone else, clean shop.

Atchison's ERA is probably half of what Okajima's is. And MDC was dominant before he got hurt. Not that I would care if they're gone, just that I think they're better than Okajima at this point.

Bard, Ramram, MDC are the guys who need to stay. Everyone else can go.

Oki was a great signing, worked out far better than it should have, but every good thing comes to an end.

Bard is the only player in the pen. Even Paps has been shaky at best this year. Delcarmen, Ramirez, Okajima. All worthless I'd Keep Atchinson over all of them. This is the area that should be tops on the list at the trade deadline. Not outfield or Catcher. Haven't even seen Wakefield come out of the pen yet. Scared to death to see that. Right now if our starter doesn't go seven innings. We lose the game.

Ramon Ramirez ERA by month

April 6.75, May 4.82, June 3.18 July 4.00

Atchision ERA by month

April 6.10, May 0.00 (only 2.1 innings), June 4.26, July 1.74

Delcarmen ERA by month

April 1.74, May 1.84, June 12.96, July 10.13

Papelbon ERA by month

April 2.25, May 3.60, June 5.73, July 0.00

Okajima ERA by month

April 6.75, May 4.15, June 6.52, July 5.79

I think its pretty clear to me that MDC needs to spend some time in AAA, Okajima needs to be DFAed, and everyone else just needs to straighten themselves out.

I think it's too early to throw Okajima under the bus. His BABIP is at .400, and looking at his contact rates batters are swinging more at pitches outside the strike zone (which is good) but also making far more contact with pitches outside the strike zone (unlucky).

Wake is only going to pitch in blow out. He blows.

You can't send Delcarmen down without him clearing waiver or placing him on disabled.

Yes I agree Okajima time is up. He has nothing left to contribute. We'll save $4M this off season with him gone.

If someone can justify having a guy on their roster with a 11.00 ERA in the last two months, they can take him.

They should give Atchison a middle relief role. Use the same strategic deployed Sunday, if the 7th inning has the top/middle order up, send Bard out to shut them down. Then the 8th will have the bottom up. This is the best option till they have someone else who will boot Delcarmen, Okajima or Ramirez off the team.

I wonder what the Twins are asking for Rauch. He can't be in their long-term plans.

But isn't he their closer now?

Bard isn't doing to pitch every night. Some of these guys need to step up or GTFO.

Do you have someone else in mind to pitch last night in the 8th?

Not only is he their closer, but they're still competing in the AL Central. Why would they be sellers?

I wouldn't imagine they're asking anything for him given that he's done a solid job closing in place of Joe Nathan. They're just not going to trade their closer in the midst of trying to win the AL Central.

He's a FA after this season, however.

I'd look hard at the Dodgers if I was looking to rebuild the pen. They have a surfeit of decent arms, and many of them are dominant enough to translate into the AL East.
Posted
I don't know why they haven't just gone out and got someone by now. There are 57 relievers with an ERA under 3.00, 67 under 3.51, and 87 under 4.0. Is it that hard to get one of them?
