Mariano Rivera told Joel Sherman of the New York Post that he would be willing to accept an Andy Pettitte-like one-year deal in order to continue his career.

"Something like that would be fine," said Rivera. That's good news for Yankees fans, as he could demand a lucrative multi-year contract after this season, even as he enters his age 41 season in 2011. Rivera has a 1.11 ERA is is 16-for-17 in save opportunities this season. The Yankees will surely offer him a new contract for as long as he remains effective, which could very well be until the end of time.

Found the bolded part to be funny. He is having, arguably, his best statistical season. He's got a WHIP of under 0.6. That is sick

I hope they sign the guy for another year. Or better yet, a multi-year deal.

That would give Papelbon one less place to go.

He is plain and simple, the best. That is the only way to describe it. I hope he eventually takes the saves record from Hoffman so he can not only be the best of all time, but also have the most saves.

As long as Mariano has command of his cutter, he can easily be effective for several more years.

Just look at Jamie Moyer who's 47 now and only throws between 75-83mph, he kept the Yankees offense from scoring last week. You don't need alot of speed to get batters out, its all about locating the pitches.

I wouldn't want Papelbum anyway.... I'd throw an 85 year old Rivera out there before a Papelbon in his prime every time lol.

I could see Rivera still pitching like this for another 5 years, I hope they continue to resign him until he simply can't pitch well anymore

Then get Papelbon ;)

?

How can you say my opinion is false. My statement wasn't based on Papelbon's ability, but rather my genuine dislike for him. One of my favorite Yankee Stadium moments will always be booing him and cheering "Mar-i-ano!" from the time he came in from the bullpen until he was taken out of the '08 All Star Game.

I'm not debating his quality as a pitcher, but Papelbon in pinstripes would make me sick. Hopefully he does leave Boston though and ends up somewhere in the NL.
