Lackey vs Haren.

Game moved to 6 due to Celtics game. I'll probably miss most of it :(

Will the sox complete the sweep?

The Red Sox and D-backs are headed for a showdown in Beantown.

The home team is one victory from completing the three-game sweep against the visitors from Arizona and has won six of its past 10 games. The D-backs have lost a franchise-record 12 consecutive games on the road.

Dan Haren is scheduled to take the hill for the D-backs, and John Lackey will do the same for the Red Sox.

There can only be one winner.

On Saturday against the Cardinals, Haren allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out nine over eight innings. He has pitched eight or more innings in five of his 14 starts this season. Moreover, the right-hander won consecutive starts for the first time since April 20 and 26.

In six career starts against Boston, Haren is 2-3 with a 2.65 ERA.

As for Lackey, he has pitched better his past few starts and is coming off one of his better outings, when he gave up six hits and two runs, walking none and striking out three against the Phillies on Friday. He should be feeling confident. Lackey is 3-0 over his past four starts, and in seven Fenway starts, he is 5-1 with a 5.10 ERA.

Overall, he is 18-11 with a 3.38 ERA for his career in June, his best in any month.

D-backs: Webb airs it out

Injured starter Brandon Webb threw 75 pitches and felt fine Wednesday. He will play catch the next couple of days before getting back on the mound for another bullpen session this weekend while the club is in Detroit. ... The trade of Conor Jackson to the A's was not lost on the D-backs' players. They are aware that more changes could be coming. "I don't know if it's the first of many, but I think everyone here in the clubhouse is on their toes," Haren said. "We did this to ourselves. We made this situation, so we're going to have to deal with it. In the next month and a half, there could be more changes; there might not be. We just have to go out and still focus on doing your job. You can't think about being traded or not." ... The D-backs on Wednesday signed 15 of the 50 players selected in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. ... Arizona has been outscored 68-22 during the 12-game road losing streak.

Red Sox: Dice-K making progress

Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was placed on the disabled list just minutes before his start Saturday with a right forearm strain, threw from about 150 feet on Wednesday. ... Marco Scutaro received a nerve-root injection Monday to lessen the pain he's felt because of a pinched nerve in his neck. He was back in the lineup Wednesday and went 2-for-4. ... Right-hander Josh Beckett (1-1, 7.29 ERA) is also working his way back from the disabled list, where he has been since May 19 with a lower back strain. "Beckett is also doing really well," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "This is going to be a little slower, because he has been down for a while, but I think he really feels good about himself."

Worth noting

With the Celtics forced to a Game 7 against the Lakers in the NBA Finals on Thursday, the Red Sox have moved the starting time of their series finale against the Diamondbacks to 6:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park. The tipoff of Thursday night's NBA game is scheduled for 9 ET. Additionally, streets closed around Fenway Park on Tuesday during Game 6 will also be closed Thursday. ... The D-backs have allowed a Major League-high 36 home runs since May 20. The club ranks first in the NL with 140 doubles and second with 253 walks. ... Before this series, brothers J.D. Drew and Stephen Drew last played against each other on June 24, 2008.

Lackey has been pitching like he should be lately. The last four starts, he's been averaging a little under 6.2 per start with an ERA of 3.43. He's healthy, so I don't see any reason why he can't keep pitching like this.

Just in case they pull out the win.......

Going to the game tonight? Read this

Two things:

1. The game was moved to 6:10 p.m. because of Game 7 in the NBA Finals.

2. Streets will be closed around Fenway tonight. This information via the Red Sox:

Brookline Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from the Landmark Center to Kenmore Square beginning at the end of the third quarter of tonight’s Celtics game. The area around Fenway Park has been posted with no parking/tow zone signs. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the Boston Transportation Department will begin towing vehicles parked on Ipswich Street, from Boylston Street to Charlesgate, and on Brookline Avenue, from Park Drive to Kenmore Square.

The Red Sox urge fans to use public transportation if at all possible.

Why would they close Brookline avenue? Are they afraid of rioting?

I'm not sure why else. Don't recall Boston being much of a riot town.

2004 was a little crazy around Fenway (that girl was killed with a pepper spray bullet) but other than that I think thats a fair assessment.

All with a makeshift outfield and a worthless ace. Not bad Theo' date=' not bad.[/quote']

Take your pick for a worthless ace: Beckett or Lackey.

Posted
Compared to Beckett, Lackey and Dice-k have pitched like Cy Youngs. Especially Lackey, he's had two or three bad starts but besides that he's been great, and he pitches deep into games.

John Lackey stats coming into this game: ERA : 4.54, WHIP 1.574, and BBs/9: 4.9

These are terrible numbers.

Sorry. Lackey has been a big disappointment so far

Lackey has sucked. "Intensity" doesn't mean s*** if you can't pitch.

Three mediocre months with the Sox don't make a career. Knee-jerking doesn't suit you.

Lackey is well off his career stats: ERA: 3.85, WHIP: 1.320, BBs/9: 2.7

You have to wonder how much of his good ERA comes from playing in Anaheim. Still, he should improve. He will never be an "ace" IMO; nor will Beckett.
