If the Yankees make the playoffs, there's a legitimate possibility that their starting rotation could consist of CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Javy Vazquez, and Dustin Moseley. Additionally, with the struggles of the offense, the problems in the starting rotation, and injuries to key players, Yankees fans who don't acknowledge the possibility of missing the playoffs are foolish.

Robbie Cano regressing has really hurt.

did you seriously think he would continue at the pace he was one ?

even with the regression he's having a great season

Moseley isnt going to be in the playoff rotation, step away from the panic button. Right now, they're playing like s*** and they're 6 games up on a playoff spot. They are too good to keep hitting like they're swinging wiffle ball bats

If Pettitte doesn't come back, and they're serious about Hughes' innings limit, who is the fourth starter?

cano had one really great month this year when he hit .400/.436/.765 in april but other than that he's been the same hitter that he's always been but with better defense

He's been bad this month. That has been one of the main reasons the offense has struggled a bit.

the yankees just started to struggle like this, there's still a lot of season left for them to lose ground and a lot of games that they still have to play agianst tampa and boston

His OPS from April through July was in the high .900s. Thus far in August, it's .645. A good team can play with 2 or 3 guys slumping. But when Jeter, ARod, Cano, Posada, and Gardner are in a slump, then you're gonna have trouble scoring

But we have to get to the point where we wonder how many of those guys are going to turn it around.

it's hard to blame a 9 man offense on 1 player. the worst offenders this month are gardner (.495 ops), posada (.495 ops), granderson (.571 ops) and berkman (.614 ops)

Where did I say I'm putting it solely on Cano? I mentioned that he isn't performing well, which has hurt the Yankees.

Those 5 guys are not going to finish the yr in the .600OPS range. They're too good

i agree. when you're looking at guys in their mid to late 30's like a-rod, posada, jeter, berkman, etc. you have to wonder if it's more than just a slump though

I think A-Rod's suffering through more than a slump. His numbers have been consistently poor this year. Berkman might still be feeling his injury.

SO they all of a sudden aged mid season and are going to go from allstar/above average performers to scrubs. Seriously' date=' you're too much[/quote']

yes, because a-rod, jeter, posada and berkman were all having all-star seasons before the second half...

i guess when you're wearing pinstriped glasses all the time you miss a lot of what's going on

Berkman to the DL' date=' Eduardo Nunez up to the big club[/quote']Berkman's pickup didn't do much for the Yanks anyway, so his going to the DL is a non-event. Wood was the key pickup at the trading deadline, and he looks to be throwing the hell out of the ball.

Mark Teixeira was scratched with thumb pain after testing it out in BP, he is day to day

Pettitte threw at full intensity today and felt fine. He is on schedule to return in 2 weeks

ARod started hitting today and says he'll make it off the DL on Sept 5th

Berkman should be activated on Sept 3rd when he is eligible

Now for the bad news.

Damaso Marte has experienced a setback and is likely headed for the operating table for his shoulder. Good thing Logan turned into such a boon (pun intended). He might be the best thing we got out of the Vazquez deal
