Why is that?

I think it's pretty cool just to be somewhere different than where its been played for years now.

And it's played in places where the weather tends to be benign in February. I don't like the idea of increasing the likelihood that weather will play a significant role in the outcome of the game. The winds in that region at that time of year alone are almost a guarantee to have an impact. Then there's the potential for other weather events. I think this is a bad idea.

I don't think the weather should play any role in what is supposed to be a completely neutral environment game.

Shouldn't this be titled' date=' "New Jersey to host 2014 Superbowl"?[/quote']

If you want to be technical it should be New York/New Jersey, not just one or the other. lol

The game is going to be played in New Jersey. Therefore, New Jersey, not New York, is hosting the Super Bowl. This is indisputable.

Last time I checked Meadowlands Stadium is owned by the NEW YORK Giants and the NEW YORK Jets.

Both NFL.com and ESPN.com have it listed as New York/New Jersey, are you trying to say they're wrong?

....yes. It's going to be played in New Jersey.

The New York Giants and the New York Jets aren't hosting the game. Their stadium is. Their stadium's geographic location is New Jersey. The game is being played in New Jersey. New Jersey is hosting the game. Once again, this is fact.

Regardless, I've been in some pointless debates, but this one probably tops the list.

You don't know this. The jets or giants might make it to the superbowl.

There's nothing like taking in the sights and smells of Eastern New Jersey on a cold February night.

If you think of the Super Bowl in the sense that it's now a two-week long stretch of event after event culminating with the game itself, then yes it's accurate to say New York AND New Jersey is hosting the game because in an economical sense, the Super Bowl is so much more than just the game. But if you look at just the game itself, well yea...New Jersey is hosting the game. 90% of the events will be held in NYC. The vast majority of fans and media will be staying in NYC so the local economies of NYC and East Rutherford, NJ will both benefit from the game.

I don't like the idea of giving any team home field advantage for no reason. If the Jets/Giants get in, they WILL have more fans. If the Patriots get in, they will have more enemies. If it snows, southern teams who aren't used to dealing with snow have a severe disadvantage that other southern teams haven't had in the superbowl lately. If weather makes it a bad game(ie a scoreless snow game), how much will that hurt the ratings?

Hell, if we're just going to award the superbowl to a non-neutral place, why not just give the team with the better record home-field advantage?

Well, seeing as how most Super Bowls are played in active NFL stadiums, the chance exists every year that a team will have home field advantage...

Again, this exists every year. If the game is played in a dome with no weather factors, it benefits teams with speed and great passing attacks. If the game is played somewhere windy or rainy, it benefits teams who play great defense or run the ball well. No matter where the game is played, it generally caters to one team's style over the other.

Ok, aside from when the game is played at the Rose Bowl, when has it ever been played in a non-neutral place?

This is a terrible idea. I love games being played in poor weather, but the Super Bowl shouldn't be one of them, especially if the NFL keeps trending towards becoming a pass happy league.

I do too, but I was shocked to hear this. I was pretty isolated from civilization yesterday so when I got home early this morning and heard I was a little confused lol. Awesome though, I can't wait.

Yea, I don't care about the weather issue either. A few years ago, the Colts and Bears played the game in Miami in the pouring rain anyway.

And that was a pretty awful game, especially in the first half. Sometimes it's unavoidable (e.g. the example you provided), but, in my opinion, the NFL needs to give the game the best chance to be played in good weather.
