With the way Buchholz is pitching right now, and with the struggles of Lackey and Beckett, if SD calls up says we will trade A-Gon for Clay (other pieces), can the Sox do that if Clay keeps pitching well?

Lackey and Beckett would have to right the ship for that to happen (in the scenario) i guess, Beckett's peripherals suggest a bounceback is on the horizon, but Lackey's simply getting hammered of late.

Buchholz is the man now, lol Never thought I would say that, but....... Lester is starting to get back into form.

Everyone knew Lester would be fine once May rolled around. Its about time Clay starting pitching well.

There has to be something to Lester's early-season struggles.

He's just a slow starter I guess, just like Teixeria. There is ST a reason, so guys come out ready and don't need a month to get going. I would understand a couple bad starts to start the year, but watching him waste 4 or 5 knowing it hurts his Cy Young numbers is painful to watch.

For the money we spent on defense' date=' we suck. This was our number one priority for the new year. I still say we should have gotten Halladay. [b']Now we should go after Oswalt.[/b] Josh is doing nothing after signing that big contract, so far.

No thanks. Getting up there in age, owed a lot of $$$, bad back and he's been on the decline. Houston is going to want a lot of young talent in return and he will definitely not be worth the price.

The last two years, Lester has been the first guy who arrives at Spring Training, so I seriously doubt it has anything to do with his conditioning.

Could be a mental thing. Could be the weather. Who knows?

Sox up to 12th in the AL (after being dead last for most of the year) in runs allowed, they rank fifth in K's, and 11th in BB's allowed. Improvement.

As for the defensive side of things:

The Red Sox currently rank 7th in the Major Leagues in UZR/UZR150, 6th in defensive efficiency, and 4th in Park Adjusted Defensive Efficiency. All defensive metrics concur that the Red Sox currently boast one of the best defenses in baseball, and with a resurging rotation and consistently productive offense, looks like the April struggles are a thing of the past.

It's the first time all year I've seen him make a play that Lowell wouldn't have made.

I know you like Lowell and all, but be serious.

You forget that Lowell is a gold glover.

You forget that Lowell was a Gold Glover. He still has soft hands, but doesn't have the same range. This is a fact acknowledged even by Lowell himself.

Don't forget that Beltre was a Gold Glover in the past too. He still has great range, but his hands have hardened.

Every player in the major leagues is capable of making a great play or two. That's why they're there.

Then why's Lowell warming the bench?

Honest question: Do you think you're a better evaluator of defensive performance than the Red Sox front office?

Hey, I'm not the one who keeps ditching Alex Gonzalez then can't find anyone who can play shortstop...

I suggest you offer your services to the Sox. Their lack of ability in measuring defensive ability would be compensated by your expertise.;)

If they paid everyone who knew that Alex Gonzalez was a better fielder than the flotsam and jetsam they keep rotating through shortstop, they'd be bankrupt.

Not the point. You're the one who knows more about defensive performances than the FO. I sure don't, so that's why i suggested you offer your services, since you're so good at it and all that.
