Unless you state supporting stats, your post is invalid.

What are you thinking?;)

I realize that you are kidding. :D But for those woh seriously think that was a good lineup here's the supporting stats:

Bill Hall

McDonald

Varitek

They all stink and they all were playing

Scutaro was the leadoff guy. Sorry, but he's supposed to be #9

Missing:

Ellsbury

Vmart

Ortiz

It was a stinky lineup that faced horrible pitching.

I agree with Ellsbury and V-Mart... but Ortiz one of the missing vital items of the lineup? Its now basically a platoon of Ortiz/Lowell at DH. Hes still batting .160 lol, last 10 games he's 6 for 36

V-Mart is in a slump, but he's younger and will have a good season sure enough. His throwing problems are probably affecting him mentally, while he's at bat

That, and Varitek has his ups and downs. Hes' always been a good offensive catcher, and right now, he's hitting better than most of the team.

The Red Sox are calling up Fabio Castro to give them a fresh arm for the bullpen. Has been one of the worst pitchers in Pawtucket this season, amassing an 8.10 ERA. Atchison is likely to get sent down

When Dice-K is activated off the DL, Castro will be sent back down to Pawtucket. Sox have by the end of the week to promote Alan Embree to the bigs or he will walk. Basically a DFA for Schoenweiss

In 8 appearances, hes 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA. 7.1 innings, 2 Hits, 3 Runs, 5 Walks, 6 Ks

Still a bad lineup. The pitching was just worse.

Which one of these guys is a bad hitter against lefties?

Lowell, career .848 OPS vs. lefties

Varitek, career .830 OPS vs. lefties

Beltre, career .807 OPS vs. lefties

Hall, career .805 OPS vs. lefties

McDonald, career .830 OPS vs. lefties

First of all, I never mentioned Lowell or Beltre in my post explaining why the lineup was bad. I mentioned the following players:

Varitek .666 OPS vs. lefties in 2009

Bill Hall .606 OPSD vs. lefties in 2009

McDonald--I didn't realize that McDonald had any career #'s worth citing.

I also mentioned Scutaro, but unlike the other 3 , I did not have a problem with him being in the batting order, but rather I had a problem with him being in the leadoff spot. When our lineup is healthy, he is a nice 9th place hitter.

I said it was a stinky lineup, and it was. I didn't say that the manager had lots of other options.

Edit: My bad on reading the wrong stat line on Varitek, but he is still a stinky offensive player.

I really don't know why you're so hard on Tek. The stats strongly suggest that when he's well rested(ie, the beginning of a season) he's a strong offensive player and especially so against lefties. Sure, he's had more than his share of slumps but they usually occur in the middle of the season or the end of the season-- something that happens when you spend two hours in a catcher's position every day.
