The Free-style skiing was intense.

 

Turns out that several members of the U.S. team are wearing Red Sox tee shirts and swag while competing and attending the opening ceremony. NBC made a big deal of it.

 

"Red Sox Nation is well represented at the Olympics".

I can't wait for the snowboarding to start tomorrow, Shaun White's gonna KILL IT! As usual...

 

Everything I watched so far has been good though. I got really into the mens speed skating today.

The men's moguls last night was crazy. Alexandre Bilodeau giving Canada it's first-ever gold medal on home soil.

Team played great. The defense looked awful but I think that's because we were trying to push the pace and make a statement offensively and that led to a lot of Switzerland's breakouts.

 

Also, Mike Emerick is awesome, great choice to announce the men's games.

Americans are going to have to play better defense if they are going to have any hope at the medal round...if Canada gets half the odd man rushes the Swiss got they'll bury them.

I thought everyone on USA had a strong game except for Ryan Whitney...he had some real brain farts out there. The USA was clearly the stronger and more dominant team through the first two periods and it showed on the scoreboard with a 3-0 lead. Certainly the Swiss were superior in the third, but that was out of necessity for them. The US earned the right to lay back and preserve the lead. Definitely need to tighten up the D in front of Miller for Norway and Canada.

 

Switzerland may be perceived as a weak team, but they're extremely dangerous. It's easily forgotten that they beat the Czechs AND Canada in Torino. We should all be happy with a win, one in fact that was never in doubt.

In terms of the USA, this is the strongest team we've had since the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. The team we had in Torino in 2006 were just guys who played in the NHL and happened to be American.
