No, it's not.

It's actually always like this and it totally sucks.

I second that. Kudos on the crackdown. Good to see you guys ain't takin no s*** no mo'!

Hello from the UK,

I've just arrived on the forum and guided towards posting a newbie introduction.

I'm planning to watch more Sox games this year and get my Sox Jersey on regularly, ESPN permitting. Unfortunately they have to show an unbiassed schedule. It doesn't help that the time difference here means that many games start at midnight/3am. Something I have to deal with!

I have decided to get information from this forum, rather than trying to scale through the endless amounts of useless information that can be gained from trudging through the inter-web.

Is there anyone that is willing to help a guy out on a limb?

Please bear with me a little, as I'm sure there are kids of 3 years old that know more than I do about Baseball.

Anyway, thank you for your time.

Best Regards

Welcome, nice to have another member from across the pond. I'm glad your here actually because lately I've been reading a lot about baseball in Europe and it's popularity and reception by European fans despite the game's limited exposure over there. What made you interested in baseball to begin with and how common are baseball fans, even just casual ones, over there?

I have the iPhone app, and love it! Especially where there is wi-fi, the games are crystal clear!

At one Sox game I was sitting next to a man that brought his friend over from Wales. Everyone was explaining things, and laughing when he pointed out some really stupid rules. It was so fun watching a game with new eyes!

I spend a lot of time over the bridge in Wales, as my wife is originally from Newport.

To most people in the USA Baseball rules are second nature, unfortunately watching baseball in the UK is only available via a subscription TV channel, or via the web. Unless you have a reason to start watching baseball, then it you aren't going to go out of your way to start watching.

I used to play baseball when I was around 18, for the Bristol Black Sox. The team disbanded shortly after, due to equipment and traveling costs. Most teams were based in Birmingham/London and an away game was 2-3 hours away. We used to take it in turns to drive, and only had a core of 12-13 players for each game. We played Sunday afternoons, and the guys that drove were tired, even before we started matches.

Our Pitcher was pitching for Great Britain and attended Texas Rangers spring training camp a few times during the 90s, which at the time was amazing to us youngsters, as he was mid-30s. I played catcher for him a few times, and had a hand that needed ice, and TLC!!

He was a good friend, but unfortunately passed away 2 or 3 years ago after a nasty car accident. I found out from his father, that he had been offered a commentators job in Texas, but turned down the offer to pursue his business prospects in my local town. It brought back memories of our fun times playing Baseball and the shenanigans that went with it. I found that on late night TV a channel was showing ball games, and started watching. As they say, "the rest is history........"
