Patten is 35 now so I don't expect a lot from him on the field. The main reason I think he is back is to mentor the younger guys, and be a leader in the lockeroom. Nice to see Wilfork deal close, next will be the Brady extension.

He'll be a good 4th guy to have on the field who knows Brady and knows the system. He'll be able to bring more than a guy like Aiken.

I like Belichick bringing back "his guys" though.

The Patriots are due for a serious regression in 2010 without a big draft or FA signing. Their team was too young in some places and too porous/old in others. I think the Jets are gonna pass them this yr.

For the record, the Pats do have a potentially nice draft coming up. They have the 22nd pick in the first round, but they also have the Jaguars (damn) and Titans 2nd round picks in addition to their own, which are the 44th, 48th, and 53rd picks overall.

There are also plenty of teams trying to trade down, so who knows how those picks will develop, but this should be a good draft for New England.

IMO the Pats biggest need is a legit pass rusher. I would like to see them move up if need be to get one if possible. Derrick Morgan would be a pretty big leap up. Brandon Graham might be an interesting player. Dunlap could fall to NE at #22(maybe). He's got great skills, but has maturity/work ethic issues. But if BB can't motivate him, no one will. But I wouldn't mind him at pick 22.

The D could use some help at LB and secondary as well.

The offense needs to do something at RB and WR.

I think the team will be in good shape if they can accomplish that and sign Brady to an extension.

The year for regression was last year. Think about it the Pats went 11-5 in 08 with Cassel at the helm and had many other injuries, still they put up a better mark than the 09 squad. When you trade Seymour and Vrable and lose other key defensive leaders like Harrison and Bruschi, your gonna regress. Another year, another draft, another free agent class, and another of experience gained by guys like Eddelman, Merriweather, Butler, etc. Pats do have the picks to have a good draft, or the chips to trade for a big name. Pats are linked to Julius Peppers, which would address their biggest need, pass rush. Add to that Tom Brady will have a full year under his belt in his comeback and will be much more comfortable heading into the start of next year. With a real offensive coordinator, the offense could be back on track. Losing Welker hurts, but adding more diversity to the offense will help make up for his production. The Jets have a top 3 defense and are highly on the upswing, but I think based off of the run they made in the playoffs people are going to over hype them. Lets not forget that they needed to beat two teams who rested their starters to get into the playoffs. Its gonna be neck and neck next year, but right now you can't put one team a head of the other.

Well we needed a pass rusher in July and we traded our 2 best men on the outside in Vrabel and Seymour...We need some outside speed for Brady as Moss looks like he lost a step and they signed 35 year old David Patten, this is a nothing move...They need some run support on both sides of the ball, put a 1500 yard back on this club and all those 4th quarter leads we blew wouldve been W's.....I dont understand their mindset, I do know theyve been favored to win it all 5 straight years and theyve come out empty each time.

Dont look for a ton of spending from anyone this year, these guys are planning on locking the players out in 2011 and will then try and strong arm them to accept a deal thats pro ownership as if the owners dont OWN their asses already with very little money guaranteed..Im less than optimistic this year than in any year in the last 10....But they do have a ton of picks and some can be dealt for guys who can step in immediately ,Anquan Boldin can be had cheap but hes been injured often...I maintain that a 25 carry back can bring this team a ton of success and its evident that Maroney isnt the answer nor is Sammy Morris or Fred fkn Taylor...Tim Tebow? he cant throw for s*** but hed be fun out there.

This years draft is very deep with so many underclassmen coming out fearing the coming rookie salary crack down, and the work stoppage. The pats are set up nicely and I wouldn't be surprised to see them really work the draft for this year, possibly trading the oakland 1st next year for more in this draft. There is some speculation that with the depth of this years draft, the first two rounds have 1st round talent. If that's true, the Pats have potentially 4 1st round type pics.

The pats have the talent, and will get more in the draft. However they lack that veteran leadership that led them to so many superbowls....that's something that needs to be addressed (and has to some point with Patten)

Favored to win it all when? Before the season starts? That doesn't mean a lot considering it's tough to get a read on a lot of NFL teams before the season even gets underway. Sure, the Pats have been in the mix during those 5 years, but it's not like we had the absolute sure thing best team every single one of those years. We did in '08, but that's another story...

The Pat's extended Wilfolk today.

5/40 with $18.mil signing bonus.

A bargain, I believe.

Banta Cain was resigned as well. 3 years that could add up to $19.mil if incentives are met.

Good move.

Awesome news. Glad to see things could be worked out with VW. I wasn't so sure he was going to be here long term. Good stuff.

Looks like Mankins, and Gostowski will be sticking around too because of tendered offers. Great to see Wilfork extended, he really is the cog that holds down the 3-4 defense. Good to see the Pats didn't really lose anybody important, but we also haven't signed any free agents yet that would make us better. I think Peppers is overpaid, and he wouldn't fit in a 3-4 scheme anyway. I wish we went after Boldin harder. We have 4 picks in the first two rounds, we easily could have shipped a second rounder to Arizona for him.

Peppers got way too much money, no way the pats were going to be anywhere close to the deal for him. I wish we would have gone after Boldin harder, but it looks like the sticking point was the fact that the pats wanted him to play out the last year of his contract while Baltimore extended him right away with a 3/25.

This years draft is huge for the Pats future' date=' IMO.[/quote']

No doubt. It's been several years since we have had a solid draft. With all the picks in hand, this one massive.

With the threat of the lockout and the probability of a rookie salary cut looming, a lot of next years high round picks are coming out this year. It is a very deep draft with the the top 50picks probably getting first round grades. The Pats are set up nice with 4 picks in the top 53.

Jarvis Green passed a physical and agreed to a 4 year deal with the Broncos today.

Good signing for the Broncos? I ask ya'll because you've watched him play an awful lot more than I have.

Posted

Well I've always liked Green, so I'm a little biased. He's very good at DE and can play in the middle too in small doses. He's mostly a back-up player but has been able to start successfully as an injury replacement for Seymour and such. He's had a few injuries that hobbled him.

Evryone says he's a very good locker room guy and he's been very involved in the community as well.

In fact, no one has anything bad to say about the guy. He's not Ty Warren or Seymour, but he's smart and plays hard.
