Anyone watching tonight?

Two really good fighters hit the octagon tonight in separate fights. Fedor makes his Strikeforce debut vs. Brett Rogers. Gegard Mousasi fights on the undercard.

For those that didn't know, but might be interested, it's on CBS at 9:00 EST / 8:00 CST.

There are four pretty solid fights there...I'm pretty excited to watch. Count me in the group of wanting to see Fedor get knocked out.

Mousasi should roll over Sokuodjou, Miller vs Shields should be a great fight, and Werdum gets to be tested a little more this time around, Silva isn't an awful fighter.

I think the part of this that everyone is forgetting, is that Gus Johnson is announcing this. It could be Bob Sapp and Butterbean, and i would still tune in.

He's in the guard.....IT'S A REVERSAL.....HE GETS BACK CONTROL......

I love Brett Rodgers. I hope he skullf***s the s*** out of Fedor.

I've seen a lot of this sentiment. I don't get it. I love watching a technical mastery on display, and that's Fedor. I could understand the hate if he was a bigmouth prick, but he's not.

Anyway, as a new fan of MMA, I've been catching up on what I've missed via youtube. I'll be shocked if Rogers wins. Don't get me wrong, I realize anything can happen, the haymaker he landed against Arlovski could find Fedor's chin.

Hey you guys!

I know next to nothing about MMA. But I got drawn into Ultimate Fighting in the mid 90's.

Pardon the spelling! And my lack of memory! But how would Hoyce Gracie, Jay Severn, Tank Williams and (I can't remember his name), the guy who stared in the movie with Deniero and Burns (15 Minutes of Fame?) from the Ukraine match up against these guys that you speak of?

Sorry for the semi-coherent post. But I am interested.

Thanks.

Don't know, Spud. Tank would probably lose to the technical fighters, for instance Oleg Taktarov, the Ukrainian you were thinking of, beat him. That said, all it takes is one punch, or one mistake against an elite grappler, and the fight is over.

Werdum wins the first fight, but he showed flaws.

Excited to see Gegard fight again.

UFC of the 90's, and MMA now.. two entirely different things to be honest. Hoyce Gracie used to dominate people 2x his body weight.. thats not going to happen anymore. Old UFC basically was your toughest dudes in the ring beating the s*** out of eachother. Hair pulling, all that stuff.. allowed. Now? Its a lot more controlled, and monitored. It doesnt take as much to stop a fight these days opposed to then. UFC for a point in time was blacked out from television. They had to do a lot of adjusting to host events like they do now. The fighters that are mainstream are actually skilled, as opposed to more all out brawling type of fighters that once showcased the sport.

The more I see of Mousasi, the more I'm impressed. His game is pretty complete. He is proficient and attacks from every position.

Yeah, I asked before the round clock was up.

It looks like Shields is going to be able perform the one leg takedown at will.

Shields almost had the arm triangle, which is what I was referring to. Miller allows his arm to get pinned against his head, but Shields didn't lock it in. Perhaps it's not a move he's very good at, because Miller has left it open a couple of times, but Shields didn't even try it until the 4th round.

3-2 shields' date=' very nice tactical fight.[/quote']

Yeah, that's how I'd score it, and I'd have a hard time doing it too, because Miller had Shields dead to rights, but he got away due to the clock.

I agree, save one moment, he controlled the fight. That said, the intent behind the creation of MMA fighting was to recreate real world fighting (within reason so that everyone walked away healthy, or at least able to fight another day), and the only thing that changed the true outcome of that fight, the real world outcome, was the clock.
