I figured it was an appropriate time for a thread like this, and, hopefully, it will spark some good discussion and debate. I recently read a book that ranked the top ten World Series' of all time. They were...

1991

1975

1924

2001

1912

1946

1971

1947

1955

1962

I was wondering what everyone else thought...

This should make for some fantastic discussion, and, for the baseball historians amongst us, it'll really test our memories.

You lost any credibility when you didn't list 1986 and 2004. Along with 1991, they are the most riveting World Series matchups of my lifetime. I also put 1996 in there, considering how the Braves were unbelievable favorites. 1977 gave us Mr. October.

In order for me to consider a World Series to be a great World Series' date=' it should have great players on both sides. The Yankees had their fair share, but let's face it, other than Schilling and Johnson, most people would be hard pressed to name the other players on the Arizona team. The Yanks got beat by 2 pitchers and a bunch of nobody's.[/quote']

That's a fair criticism, and that's one of the things that helps elevate the 1975 World Series above other ones. However, as you mentioned, game seven, alone, had four future hall of fame pitchers play huge roles. That might be enough right there.

However, you are right. While the Diamondbacks had a couple big names in the middle of their order (although Matt Williams was at the end of his career), they didn't have much else. Guys like Tony Womack, Craig Counsell, and Danny Bautista don't quite hold up to your standard I guess lol.

2004 was more about the ALCS than the WS. The WS was a 4 game sweep' date=' how can that be one of the best of all time?[/quote']

86 years.

But i kinda agree with you. (Holy helll)

I didn't make the list. However, how in the world can 2004 be on the list? That was such a one sided series. Also, while 1986 was good, it only had one great game. I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but it had three blowouts, a couple decent games, and an OK game seven (that was pretty much decided going into the last inning). One great moment does not necessarily make it a great series.

Someone who leaves out 2004 and 1986 hardly loses any credibility. The ten that were listed certainly deserve to be there.

If thats the case' date=' then 2005 has to be on the list too because the White Sox shook off a massive curse too[/quote']

Maybe it should be then lol.

It definitely shouldn't be there, but, out of all the World Series sweeps, 2005 might have been the best one.

Luis Gonzalez hit 57 homers that yr.

And my favorite overlooked solid utility infielder, Craig Counsell, led the league in reaching on catcher's interference! In fact, he reached more times than everyone else in the NL combined!

GO CRAIG!
