He was a highly regarded catcher out of North Carolina, I think he played with Bard and Andrew Miller.

I know he was involved in the national championships of 06 and 07 against Oregon State a few years back, I believe he was the starting catcher.

I take it as a good sign that he played such an important position for an elite college program. It doesn't guarantee success, but that combined with his actual success in the minors and his sound defensive reputation make me think he's a guy who is destined to end up in the big leagues.

By some calculations he was the best defensive catcher in the Sox system this year. I have never heard a single disparaging word about any facet of Federowicz's defensive game.

If he can hit at all he should be a lock to get to the bigs as at least a backup.

with the name Federowicz' date=' he likely will never make an impact, lol. [/quote']

can't be worse than Taylor Teagarden when it coms to names that don't exactly inspire macho confidence.

when it comes to names I'd rather not have as a hitter, though, tops on my list is Nick Swisher.

In reality he's a very competent hitter, but I'd rather not have a surname that was in any way associated with a failed attempt to hit the ball. Especially if I'm going to be a hitter who's no stranger to the K.

if this kid works with pitchers as well as i hear he could work with varitek and he could work with youkilis on the hitting aspect of being disciplined and he could be really good. i think he could be an impact in a few years in the upper minors.

Everyone should work with Mo Vaughn and become master power hitters then. Cuz working with a guy who's done it means you'll gain the ability to do that, right?

Can't wait for 40 HR Alex Cora because he "worked with" Ortiz.

Seriously, I get what you're saying, and you picked two good players because both Tek and Youkilis have a reputation for being smart, not just talented, but you have to have the ability to go with the training. Like in Youkilis' case, you need to have the eye and mental composure to take close pitches before working with him is going to be better than working with a generic hitting coach.

I'm sure Federowicz is already doing everything he can on the training front. It'll come down to his ability.

Work ethic only gets you so far, unfortunately. That's why guys like Tyler Hansborough - I know, basketball, but it's still a proper example - will never make it as a star at the professional level. There has to be some ability to make it in the big leagues in absolutely any sport. Of course, talent without work ethic works the same way.
