well' date=' enjoy the series. I am moving this weekend, so I wont be around for awhile. Its just nice to see the yankees take 7 of the last 8. Looks like the AL East title is gonna find its way to its rightful place in NY. The funny thing is, the sox have the third best record in the game, a half game behind the dodgers. These two teams in the same division make for great drama, but dont give any other team a chance outside of a few outliers (see Rays, Tampa). Have a good weekend y'all.[/quote']

Nobody cares.

Chip Caray just lied to America.

He marvelled at Jeter's ability to get 2-strike hits and remarked, "I wonder what his batting average is with 2-strikes? I bet it's pretty high."

Moments later, tells us that he has 71 of his 201 hits were 2-strike hits this year, as if to provide support to his original suggestion. Well, my question is, how did he come about this information? I would think he looked it up. Low and behold, he does have 71 hits, but he's hitting .254 with 2-strikes. Any moderately attentive baseball fan would tell you that a majority of his hits came with 2-strikes because he sees a lot of pitches.

Pay up, Chip.

I think the only chancde the Sox have is for the Yankees to lose to the TIgers in the first round. The Sox starters and bullpen will really need to get some help from the offense to make any playoff series close, and this team isn't the same club offensively as the clubs in 07 or 04.

That said, I think this team is very, very close to being able to beat this Yankees team, which is saying A LOT.

This is the first of the Yankee teams this decade that actually lives up to the hype demanded of a $200m+ payroll team. I think they will win the WS and will obviously be in contention next year. At the same time, if the Sox are able to add another SP (Wakefield retires, John Lackey as a #5 please?) and another bat or two, then I think they're right back there with the Yankees. At this point, though, the Yankees are the better team because of their amazing offense.

Is it wrong that when I hear Chip Caray's voice, I want him to get fisted with the heavy end of a baseball bat?

?

I'm trying to understand what you have said here.

The Sox are not as good as the '04 and '07 teams. Check.

The Sox are close to beating the Yankees? ? Maybe.

The Yankees will win the WS? Quite possibly.

Another SP and two more bats? Tall order. But possible.

Amazing Yankees offense? Formidable, yes. Insurmountable? No.

The Sox are not championship caliber.

The Yankees MAY be.

That's my opinion.

Offensively they're not as good. Defensively I think they're better and I'd rather have this team's pen.

Closer than any other team, IMO, both by results and by record overall this season. These teams are basically built to beat one another, year after year.

Hopefully one is Jason Bay, and maybe the other comes via trade. As for pitchers, I don't think this team will be able to overcome the Yankees (at least for the AL East) without acquiring another good SP.

It depends on what day you get them, but they are able to knock around great pitchers.

They might be, but the Yankees stand in their way.

If the Yankees aren't, then nobody is. They are absolutely championship caliber.

Great post. I agree.

I just did not understand what you initially said.

No disrespect intended.

Good to see Lester is okay' date=' but we were raking him prior to his departure. Joba looked good until that Papi pitch. Good showing by the best team in baseball[/quote']

You honestly have to be the most obnoxious human being I have ever personally encountered on or off of the internet.

The lineup is very good 1 through 8 when VMart is catching. It's good enough to compete with anyone including the Yanks. They need a good bat off the bench to back up VMart at catcher. Baldelli's bat is good against lefties, but I would like to see an upgrade bat coming off the bench to play the OF. Starting pitching is the real need going forward. Enough of the retreads and taking fliers on post surgical and other injured pitchers. They need another solid starter for the 4-hole and if they want to take a flier, take it on Pedro to be the #5.

There are 4 pitchers who will make the rotation next year. What number (1 through 5) you assign to each is your prerogative. Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Matsuzaka, and __________ will be the starting rotation. If the blank is Pedro (with another flier injury rehab type in Pawtucket as possible insurance), I'm OK with that. If it's a bigger name like Lackey, who subsequently moves up the list, I like it a little more.

From a money perspective, having Bowden start the year in Pawtucket as part of the insurance policy is probably the right move. However, if he's part of the acquisition cost for a bigger name pitcher (named or not-named, wink, wink, nudge, nudge, saynomore, saynomore), then OK.
