I would sure hope so. What kind of contract do you think he commands?

5 years/$15 million with bonuses. Because of his style of play he's bound to miss 7-10 games a year. So I would say unless he has a monster year next year and has 30 goals+ he'll get about $3 million a year. He could also be a guy they sign to one of those huge 10 year deals. I'd rather they do that with Chara though.

I think that's a little optimistic. Lucic doesn't have the offensive chops of Kessel but he's got high potential as a power wing and if he scores 25+ this year -- a very attainable goal -- and plays his usual physical game, he could make a lot more than #3M/year.

I'm fine with Kessel leaving Boston. The kid obviously didn't want to be here so it's best we moved on. I would have rather they received players that could help the club this year instead of the picks though.

For those who think the organization somehow mismanaged contracts and found themselves without enough money to retain Kessel, think again. They never planned on signing him long term.

I liked his speed and quick release but that's about it. He soft, doesn't play D and from what I've heard, he doesn't have a good work ethic. I was also fed up with his only move when skating into the offensive zone that was poke checked away by a D man a million times during his time here.

Lucic is a "true Bruin" or "dirt dog" or whatever the f*** you want to call it.

If Kessel really didn't want to be here, why did he say he did in June, at a Bruins charity event? Seems odd that he'd take part in that event if he really wanted to skip town.

An honest question to those who try to defend this - is there any scneario in which you envision the Bruins being the winners in this deal? Any at all? People are severely overrating the value of these draft picks, and they still don't have cap space to take on a guy like Kovalchuk at the deadline.

Just a horrid sequence of moves from PC starting with the Thomas extension. His legacy in Boston hinges upon this Kessel deal, IMO.

Yeah, because it's sooo easy to come back from cancer and mono, and play in the playoffs with a torn labrum.

He flat out wanted to get paid, he didn't care who was gonna pay him. Toronto signed him to a pretty hefty deal considering his career resume so far but this is a deal that could come back to bite Boston in the ass.

I'm pretty sure the reason he didn't want to be here anymore is because he wasent going to get the money he wanted

Just like Tex going NY

And just like the Tex deal, the Bruins could have had him but they painted themselves into a corner and made themselves look like jackasses.

"In Chia We Trust"? Not any more.

Good to see Jeremy Jacobs shake off all that winning they did last year and dump this kid with balls of stone and huge upside....Maybe they can deal these 1st round picks for a dozen 3rd and 4th rounders in 2016...f***tard move...again...

If they had any recent success I can understand this but they havent had any recent success, they got beaten by a carolina team that was annilihated by the Penguins.

Infuriating, amazing and it has the Jakes fingerprints all over it.

If it's true what PC is saying in Kessel didn't want to play in Boston, you might as well get what you can for him. Obviously when your a team in contention for the Playoffs you want something that will help you now. But to have that many high picks isn't such a bad thing. It's probably a top ten at this point in time. It could easily be a top 5 pick.

I know it's early, but any young players stand out in this years draft class?

I'm gonna be honest. I followed the Bruins growing up in Maine, but when I moved I kind of lost touch with the team and whats been going on with them. But being in Europe we get a lot of Hockey here and over the last year or so I have started to follow the team a bit more.

And since this is probably the first time I have talked hockey here, what's everyone's opinion on PC?

I'm of the opinion that Kessel didn't want to be here because we gave him the short end of the stick in the negotiations, and it honestly didn't even look like we wanted to keep him.

I still think "Phil didn't want to be here" is a cop out by the FO.

Right...they got beaten by Carolina because they weren't as good as their regular season record. Phil Kessel or not, this team is not a Stanley Cup contender, IMO. Their issues get no easier in the next year or two with Savard a UFA next year and RFAs in Wheeler, Lucic, Stuart and Rask.

I obviously wasn't including his off the ice troubles when I called him soft. I give the kid credit for playing hurt in the playoffs but lets not act like he was the only guy on the team doing so.

That is true. He obviously knew Boston wouldn't offer him top dollar so he cut off negotiations and it worked out for him because he got a great deal.

2010's class is said to be decent, while 2011's is one of the worst in recent memory.

Chiarelli has done a good job turning a really bad team into a pretty good team. I think a lot of things broke his way last year which ultimately led to them getting the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

I do think that his moves since the Thomas extension have been awful. He's very lucky Krejci signed a team friendly deal, because if he didn't, he could be facing even more of a cap crunch. I think he spends far too much money on reclamation projects or mediocre, aging players (like a Kobasew, Ryder or Thomas) than invest in young talent with high upside (trading Lashoff and Kessel come to mind).

Chiarelli's legacy rides on the Kessel trade and the Thomas contract, IMO.

100% agreement. There were articles linked back in June where Kessel said he wasn't looking for $5 mil, but rather something in the 4.25 mil range. He got lowballed, and Toronto ponied up a lot of cash. Bad form by Chiarelli and he will pay for it.
