Most people will agree that Yankee Stadium is a homerun hitters park. However, explain it to Nick Swisher.

At Yankee Stadium, Swisher is garbage. One of the worst players I have EVER seen. [This may explain why I don't really care for him, since I see a lot of him at the stadium]. He has a .200 BA, .373 OBP, and a .309 SLG. His OPS is .682. He has his a total of three homers at Coors East.

.309 Slugging? Are you f***ing serious? Even I could do that in the Majors.

However...

On the road...this guy is an MVP candidate. He boasts a .285 BA, .366 SLG, and a .618 SLG. With 19 homers [20, since he hit one tonight], this guy would lead the leage in homers if he played the whole season on the road.

In all the years I've watched baseball, I've never seen this kind of disparity with a hitter, especially when the expected outcome would be reversed.

Either way...how the f*** did we get this guy for Wilson Betemit? Wilson f***ing Betemit. Are you serious? Serious props to Cashman...for once.

It just goes to show you that even one full season isn't always a large enough sample size to draw conclusions. If Swisher stays in NY for a couple more years I'd be willing to bet those numbers begin to even out.

Personally, I like Swisher. He adds a lot to the line up. He might not have the best bat, or best fielding abilities, but it seems like he adds a lot of morale and livelihood to the club. To me, you can't really put a price tag that. He could have a batting avg. of .190 for all I care.. he brings a spark to that line up and its a lot of fun to watch him play.

I hate Swisher. f*** him.

Prior to this season, when was the last time you watched a Yankees game where it seemed like they were actually having fun being out on the field? The make up for the Yankees this year is amazing.. and I think Nick Swisher has a large role in that.

The guy does an 8-ball before every game. I swear it's true.

He probably just hates the surroundings at Yankee Stadium.

And by surroundings, I mean fans.

It definitely happens if your home field is Petco Park.

Lol i came here to post "Adrian Gonzales says hello".

Yeah but Gom also mentions that is numbers are awful in a hitter's park' date=' so we can rule him and many others out.[/quote']

Exactly. We would expect Gonzalez to do better on the road.

What's amazing is that these splits are extreme...and contrary to the norm.

It would be like having someone with a 5 ERA in the NL Central coming to the AL East and winning the Cy Young.

These splits happen from time to time. Sometimes its psychological, sometimes its just a player's hot and cold nature during one season. It will even out. That being said, this guy has been an absolute find and his progress from what he was last yr is enormous. I hope he can build off this yr and be even better for 2010. But I would take another yr like this.

It's not a huge deal. A .373 home OBP isn't killing us, and he still takes a ton of pitches. Like jax said it will probably even out anyway.

update:

...looking at Swisher's home splits since this thread start, it looks like the numbers are already starting to even out:

.224/.384/.370/.754

Id argue that Nick Swisher carried this team early on when they were having a hard time getting out of the gate, I cant justify his splits, nobody sane can but I do hope he sucks in October.
