If you mean Drew' date=' do you think we should read anything into his poor career numbers out of the leadoff spot? That would seem to be more of a mental thing, right?[/quote']

Drew has 288 AB's in the leadoff spot compared to over 5,000 in his career. I think it safe to discard any notions about JD's lack of ability to hit in the leadoff spot.

Honestly im up for putting Lowell at DH but until Youk get's back we kinda need him at 3rd base. I think it's a good idea though put Martinez at 1st. Youk at 3rd. Let's be honest Lowell is much better there than Papi as of this point. Papi hasn't really done a whole lot this season. I just can't understand what is wrong with Papi I have never seen his power numbers this bad man.

Maybe he has something left' date=' but I don't think a pennant race is the appropriate time to figure that out.[/quote']

He struggled the first 2 months of the season, no doubt, but since then, he has been fairly productive (.250, .327, .510, .837, 14HR, 44 RBI). He has cooled down a bit since the AS break, but give him some time to get back into his groove. Drop him down in the order and if he is still in a funk come the end of the month, then we can start talking about leaving him out of the lineup for good. His upside is just way to high to give up on.

.230/.310/.400

That's probably what his upside is.

and that really isnt really worth waiting for from a DH...I think Papi could be useful to another team maybe but not in Boston, as much as I love Papi he just isnt carrying his weight anymore.

Month of June: .320, .409, .653, 1.062

Last year: .264, .369, .507, .877

It's David Ortiz. You have to give him time to try to work out of his recent slump. When he gets going, he is lethal. Do you guys have that short a memory?

I kind of figured, Papi hasnt shown alot on the road...I dont mind still giving him a few starts at Fenway but I just dont know that there is really much more that we can expect from Papi...

Have you seen him play recently? He can't hit good fastballs, and he has to cheat to hit average ones. He's extremely vulnerable to breaking balls, because of his inablity to hit the fastball. He's also 34 years old, has old player skills, and has the body of Mo Vaughn. This guy is cooked. Players like Ortiz see their numbers evaporate extremely swiftly.

As for his June/July stats, David Ortiz has five of his fifteen HR's which are considered lucky HR's. He leads the AL in that category. The power just is not there this year. He's been a terrible burden on the Red Sox this year, and I hope he isn't asked back in 2010.

and there is a chance that he is older than that, he could have very likely lied about his age to be more appealing to pro scouts.

Wouldn't surprise me, but it also doesn't surprise me that a heavy DH is declining rapidly at 34.

no not at all...even if he was reminicent of the old Papi this year it was only a matter of time.
