Why not Mike Lowell as the DH???

I know its not just me, but Lowell is hitting much better then Papi.. why would couldn't he start hitting way more as the DH and sit Papi?

no i dont, and we have seen him DH here recently, but we probably like putting V-Mart at C and Lowell at 3rd for our best lineup, even if it hurts the defense a bit.

See i really like that a lot... but i don't see Francona sitting Tek... Everyone feels they have to play him because he is the captain. I really feel if the sox want to win this year francona has to sit Tek, as hard as that may be.

it's hard for me to watch papi have his struggles because he has been a great hitter in years past. But you can't always count of the past you have to focus on the future and i think terry needs to do that and put someone with better numbers in the DH hole

i agree 100%... we are living in past with Tek and Papi.. it time for them to sit even know it would be hard to watch.

Lowell DHING means Ortiz comes out of the lineup, which means Sox could either play V-mart at first and Tek at catcher or play Kotchman at first and V-mart at catcher. So it really comes down to Ortiz or Tek/Kotchman. I personally would rather see Kotchman in the lineup over Tek and Ortiz. Kotchman has better OPS and OBP then both of them and is upgrade defensively.

It is but I seriously doubt we use the lineup consistently or on any sort of daily basis.

Papi had that spike in June, and that has kept him in the lineup. But he hasn't done much since, and you wonder how long the FO will keep him in the lineup when Youks comes back. Especially with Lowell hot.

 

Off thread, I'm watching Pedro tonite, and he looks pretty damn good. Throwing 92-93, and splitting hairs with it. Very tough on RHders with that 3/4 delivery. Nice to watch a HOF pitcher. Still has a lot of style out there.

I dont understand why the Red Sox have not done this. It is pretty clear that Ortiz and Varitek are hurting this team and are virutally automatic outs right now. You know that Terry Francona won't do this because he is loyal to his guys and doesn't want his guys to lose confidence.

I dont understand why the Red Sox have not done this. It is pretty clear that Ortiz and Varitek are hurting this team and are virutally automatic outs right now. You know that Terry Francona won't do this because he is loyal to his guys and doesn't want his guys to lose confidence.

I still don't think we should give up on Ortiz just yet, but I'm all for limiting his time a bit. July wasn't great, but Ortiz still did hit 7 HRs, 24 RBI and slug .539. He's on a cold streak again right now, but I think you have to try and work it out. If we can have a healthy, "normalish" Ortiz for October, the team will be in much better shape. I think it might be worth it to let him struggle in the lineup 3 games out of 5 for a while longer.

Maybe he has something left, but I don't think a pennant race is the appropriate time to figure that out.
