I doubt Bay would want to walk and I think he will have more than sorted it out by the time his contract comes up. If he did WANT to leave however then I can think of much bigger losses. This is not to say I would want him to go but that maybe he is not as irreplacable as your post suggests.

Let Bay walk. Bring in Matt Holliday.

Jason Bay is too one dimensional, and may be as bad as Manny Ramirez defensively.

I agree, Holliday is the more attractive acquisition. But it being Boras expect long drawn out talks as usual. You never know. Add in that NY will be in on the deal, plus I have to imagine St. Louis is going to make an effort to re-sign him. He won't be easy or cheap to get. It's going to be fun to watch.

I for one hope as NY trys to woo Holliday, the Sox move quickly on a big trade and surprise everyone :D

Worst comes to Worst Reddick gets a chance at LF.

Plus there is always Crawford. I would imagine TB would like to pick up his option and trade him rather then letting him walk, but he might become available. He would be great on this team.

I think Holliday will stay in StL. He's hitting behind Pujols, and he's doing well.

I don't think Henry is in a mood to deal with Boras again some time soon. I expect Bay will be extended by the end of the season, after his seasonal numbers average out. They would be foolish not to sign him before he hits the open market. I think he'll get Drew money.

Guzman managed to be worse then my Julio Lugo comparisons.

Maybe he's sucking now because he has given up on the season. He's on the worst team in baseball. Motivation could be the issue. That could be a possibility. I don't think he lost his abilities in 3 weeks. He's still a better offensive player than AGon who looks like a blind man at the plate at times.

Agon has hit good enough. And his glove is far superior to Guzman's. Who cares if he gets a few more hits then Agon when he's throwing the ball in the stands and booting potential DP balls. Agon was the far better option.

You have visions of being surrounded by balls?

In the short run, he is much cheaper, but let's see if Theo comes up with a better SS for 2010. Lowrie is not the answer.

I just read a short segment on Lowrie potentially staying in the minors for September and not being activated. Dont have the link though. But I really think that Lowrie's chances are running short in Boston

I agree, I think Lowrie could be a great super utility guy for this club. Not the everyday SS. With Agon being a FA after the season(unlike Guzman) the Sox should be able to look for an upgrade come this off season. That was another pro for Agon over Guzman.

It would be ironic if they end up with Guzman in 2010 as a stopgap upgrade.

Guzman would be a much better upgrade in the last year of his contract than in the next to last.

I'd rather they bring Agon back for a year.

I really think the Sox go out and trade for a SS this off season. Who? Not sure. There are a lot of possibilities out there.

Sure, I'd say the same, but I'm just pointing out that there would be a difference between bringing in a guy like Guzman next year as opposed to this one, and that difference is that he'd be in the last year of his deal next year, a true rental that carries little obligation beyond that one season for the team that acquired him. Instead of clogging resources with really quite a large contract compared to the actual performance you get and forcing you to commit to Guzman for an additional year no matter how well he does.

I understand where your coming from. I can see how Guzman being more attractive if it was just one year on his deal as opposed to having him for this season and forced to have him the next even if he sucks balls.
