Can Drew be far behind with his balky groin. Too bad no OFers are available, because they could really use one. I told you that they were too thin in the OF. Now, they may be forced to put out some ridiculous OF alignment. On the bright side, we are very deep at first base. Got three of them plus Ortiz in case of an first baseman flesh eating disease emergency.

You never know who will make it through waivers. I bet you Rios will pass. He wouldn't be a bad pick up right now. There should be some guys to get through. We should know soon anyways. They can still make moves. Don't go all "sky is falling" yet:lol:;)

Reddick is on his way to NYC to join the Sox according to EEI so either Traber is being sent back or Bay is going on the DL

Sky is not falling or anything, but 3 first baseman and only 4 OFers (one who has a physically limiting disease) is just stupid. You could see this coming from a mile away. How many full seasons has Drew played? There was going to be a big chunk of OF time that had to be filled eventually, so why not let the sickly guy play it while wheeling about in his wheelchair.

Lack of available OF's is not the problem right now' date=' lack of roster space is.[/quote']

This is true. I'm sure they can figure out something.

Listen I know where you coming from. I'm just saying it's not impossible to make move.

Reddick on way back, but for whom?

Posted by Tony Massarotti, Globe Staff August 6, 2009 02:14 PM

Well, Josh Reddick is at least racking up the frequent flier miles.

One day after being sent to Triple-A to make room for left-hander Billy Traber, Reddick is on his way to New York and should arrive at Yankee Stadium in time for tonight’s game between the Sox and Yankees. Though the Red Sox have made no formal announcement, there seem to be three options with the outfielder:

1. Reddick is here for precautionary reasons pending further examination of Jason Bay’s hamstring injury;

2. Traber is heading back to the minors and Reddick will be activated;

3. Bay is headed to the disabled list to make room for Reddick.

According to major league rules designed to prevent roster manipulation, a player must spend a minimum of 10 days in the minor leagues upon being demoted. Nonetheless, an exception can be made in the event of an injury to a player at a corresponding position – outfielder for outfielder, pitcher for pitcher, etc. – though it is unclear whether a team must place the injured player on the disabled list in order to exercise that right.

We hope to have more soon, but Bay’s injury obviously leaves the Sox short in the outfield. Suddenly, the team misses the versatility of Mark Kotsay, who was designated for assignment and ultimately traded to accommodate the acquisition of Adam LaRoche. LaRoche, of course, subsequently was dealt for Casey Kotchman when the Sox acquired Victor Martinez.

If Reddick is rejoining the team 3 days after he was sent down, someone's on the DL.

yep, it is amazing how dumb reporters are. You would think that a guy whose sole job is to report on a sports team would actually be knowledgable about the sport itself. Kinda like with Steve Phillips most recent yankee-sox article. Anyone read it? It has two complete and glaring errors consistent with that idiot's thinking.

His versatility in the field makes manager Terry Francona's job easier, too, allowing him to mix and match the lineup as he sees fit because he can pencil Martinez in at third, first, catcher or DH

Apparently Martinez is a 3b now too. I see

Boston's John Smoltz is recovering from Tommy John surgery and, as a result, hasn't been all that sharp so far.

I didnt know Tommy John surgery was the monicker for shoulder surgery as well?

What an idiot

OMG, what a tool. He has to be the dumbest analyst ever. I can't believe he actually ran a franchise. He's either really dumb, or completely just mails it in and hhopes his good looks will carry him lol

The Red Sox today placed outfielder Rocco Baldelli on the disabled list (reason is unknown at this point) and activated outfielder Josh Reddick.

We'll have more on this in a bit ...
