Legit 5-tool player who's tearing up Lowell.

.275/.382/.495/.877 with 5 HR in 109 AB. He's a ways off but I really like what this kid brings to the table and I think he's the next big thing in our farm system.

From BP a couple days ago:

Monster alert!

Ryan Westmoreland, OF, Red Sox (Short-season Lowell)

Monday's stats: 3-for-3, 3B, HR (3) 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, SB

Westmoreland's .293/.412/.489 line is impressive enough for a pro debut, as in 25 games, he's hit for power, drawn 19 walks and stolen eight bases without getting caught, but it's the scouting reports that are really moving him up prospect lists, as while he's yet to take the field because of his surgically repaired shoulder, every other tool is grading at least plus, and his $2 million bonus is looking like a bargain already.

I know some about the kid but not much. Has he been DHing all season? What kind of shoulder injury did he have?

Looks like a very solid line. And a great start to his pro career. Hope he keeps it up.

He has an impressive OPS especially considering he's only 19 and weights 185 lbs.

He appears to be one of the few legit 5-tool players we've seen in this system. Every position player in the system has some sort of flaw(s) but he looks good all around. I've heard nothing but great things about him in the field, but he has been DHing most of the year.

Hit his 6th HR yesterday and had another solid 2-4 day with a double today.

.279/.384/.508/.892, 21/31 BB/K and a perfect 11-0 with SB

I'm reserving judgement on Westmoreland, but only until he has a full healthy season. He's undoubtedly talented and plays all facets of the game well. If he can stay healthy I don't see that much that's going to stop him getting to the majors.

I dunno, becuase I don't know what procedure was performed.

This is the reason I said what I did about waiting for a healthy season. if this guy doesn't make the majors, it'll be because of injuries. Unstead of a great young CF we may be looking at one of the better LF prospects in baseball
