Well' date=' JP is saying that they arent gonna deal him and will make an attempt to be competitive in 2010. .[/quote']

I really have to believe this is all just posturing. JP is doing a lot of talking himself through the process through the media and that tell me it's nothing but posturing. He needs to sell the trade to the Jays fanbase if it happens, and by putting his foot down so strong and then possibly accepting a deal he is able to say we got exactly what we wanted. Not to mention, the Phillies trading for Lee seriously undercut his leverage with other teams so he's making these statements to try and restore it.

I think a deal has to go down.

Good post.

Which member of SoSH did you steal it from?

From SI.COM

The Dodgers checked in with the Blue Jays about superstar pitcher Roy Halladay but heard an asking price they deemed so high they've crossed Halladay off their list and are concentrating on improving their bullpen now. Orioles closer George Sherrill appears to be very high on the Dodgers' list.

The Jays asked for a long list of prospects -- as many as five or six -- according to a person familiar with the talks. The Dodgers have been active at trade-deadline time in recent years but couldn't take the asking price for Halladay.

It does appear, though, that the Jays are continuing to talk about Halladay beyond their self-imposed Tuesday deadline for a Halladay deal.

JP is retarted , I hope he keeps running the Jays because they'll never contend with him as the GM

Ed Price twitters that the Jays are trying to get the Sox to take on Rios as part of the Halladay trade

I wouldn't mind that. He could replace Bay after the season if he gets his s*** together and plays like he is capable.

Rios > J.D. Drew and is half the price.....

If Theo's resisting this' date=' I'll shoot him.[/quote']

Well it's for an additional 5.5 years and over 60mil for a guy who's below .800 OPS. If they still want Buchholz then I'd say that's a pretty crappy deal for us. If they'd build the deal around Ellsbury then maybe that could work.

I say play both' date=' if it happens. I hate to bump Ellsbury from the lineup, but...[/quote']

Yes let's take the guy whos hitting over .400 for the last like 6 games:rolleyes:

If anyone needs to be bumped it's Bay. Grounding out to the SS or K'ing isn't helping the team much. At least Ellsbury is doing something productive.

Relevant phrases/terms bolded.

The best we could do is implement the OF merry-go-round.

They won't bench Bay. They need him to get going, they're f***ed if he doesn't pick it up. He won't pick it up sitting on the bench.

I also can't help but feel like Bay will make a stink about being benched down the stretch of his contract year - hindering our ability to re-sign him this winter, if not completely killing it and putting him in the hands of the Yankees.

'06, '07 he had an .850 OPS each year. Not the distant past.

You take Rios with Halladay and hope that Rios reverts to that form.

Agree.

I think they could get him enough AB's for the rest of the season doing some kind of rotation. I don't think Bay should be benched out right. But until he shows some life at the plate and gets his head straight, I don't see any reason he could sit 1 or 2 times a week.

Also Rios wouldn't be a bad replacement for Bay next off season. If he reverts back to his old form. If not, I don't think he makes a ton or is signed to a real long deal. Nice stop gap for one of the OF prospects if anything.

Edit:Take that back, this is what's left on his current deal,

10:$9.7M, 11:$12M, 12:$12M, 13:$12.5M, 14:$12.5M, 15:$13.5M club option ($1M buyout)

Not crazy expensive, but a good chunk of change.

Updated: Dodgers now front runners for Halladay

BOSTON _ Late Wednesday night there were two teams in the mix for Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay -- the Sox and the Rangers.

Now it appears the Dodgers are in the lead for the right-handed ace. Talks with the Red Sox have calmed down -- for now.

Halladay isn't the only Blue Jays player other clubs are interested in.

The Cincinnati Reds are talking to the Blue Jays about the possibility of acquiring infielder Scott Rolen in exchange for minor-league prospect Yonder Alonso. The first baseman is a product of the University of Miami and carries a big bat. He was the Reds' first pick (seventh overall) in the 2008 draft.

All for it. At his worst Rios is still a capable 4th OF. At best he's a potential superstar.

Next year we slide Drew to left to reduce wear and tear and play Rios in right with Baldelli on the bench and Reddick in the wings (unless he's traded) waiting to take over if it all falls apart. Sounds like a plan to me.

I could get on board with that.

I wonder if Taking on Rios will save the Red Sox some prospects?

If something happens I think it will be for 3 top prospects. I know the Jays want more for Halladay. But taking Rios deal has got to count for something. I see a Beckett/Lowell type package. With it being Built around Buchholz. Then 2 or 3 other players.

But that's only if a deal goes down. If the Dodgers offer Billinglsey+, that would be a hard deal to ignore IMO.

here's hoping Rios makes out like the last big contract salary makeweight we took on to balance out a big trade. That guy did OK for us for a couple years:)

Look, all I know is that Theo better have a plan. If he misses out on A-Gon and/or Halladay and is left counting his marbles because he doesn't have anywhere else to turn and the team doesn't get improved, I am going to go all "Fire_Theo" ON THIS MOTHAf***A!

Other then V-Mart there isn't many other moves out there. There is no pitcher other then Halladay that you could say would have exceedingly more success then Buchholz/Bowden/Tazawa. At least not one that would warrant giving up good young talent for anyways.
