40 centiliters is about 12 oz.' date=' I believe. I still want to know what a quid is.[/quote']

Think of it this way, 40 centilitres is the same as 400 mililitres, right? And a soda can, which I believe for you guys is 12 oz, but correct me if I'm wrong, is roughly 350 mililitres, so take your basic can of soda and add 50 mililitres. And of course, replace the soda with gin.

Making conversions between metric and imperial metrics is harder than it looks.

I never bet 40. It was 40 centilitres of gin for 20 quid. Quid is another word for "pounds" which is a slang term for British currency. Saying "Quid" instead of "Pounds" is like saying "Bucks" instead of "Dollars".

Next, a "quid" or "pound" is roughly worth $1.50, so 20 quid is worth roughly $30. So I won roughly $30 for chugging 40 centilitres of gin. I'm not sure of an exact conversion, but 50 centilitres is exactly half a litre (makes sense), so take a fraction off of that. Let's just say it was a f***** lot of alcohol.

I hope this makes sense. To say that I'm lashed is an understatement, and I'm obviously writing this from a British perspective, so I'm not sure how to phrase it in an American perspective. Does that help?

The money situation makes sense. And I usually buy 1.75 liter bottles of liquor so I can kind of picture how much half a liter of liquor is. The conversion into shots would be rough 10 centiliters for every 2 shots, so he drank about 8 shots.

The name Bates forever makes me think of Psycho, hence I have a hard time taking Bates seriously.

I never said I was logical.

And who paid for the Gin?

It was a friend's bottle. We were looking to finish it because it had been sitting there a while. I don't like gin all that much (for an Englishman), I mostly prefer a good cask ale, cider, and rum over gin, but hey, 20 quid is 20 quid. And I still have my pride and unwritten drinking title. I've even beaten all of the Americans that I've seen around here. But then again we have our stereotypes about Americans and alcohol...hahaha.

Top of the 9th and still 5-0. An epic comeback not withstanding, it can now be said that this game is now over.

Inexcusable.

Hey, sounds like you made out well then. Free booze is awesome, getting paid to drink booze is beyond awesome.

As for your drinking title, try outdrinking some Canadians and I'd be impressed. :harhar:

We can drink with anyone, especially those of us in Quebec.

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty reasonable.

No matter what uniform he wears, he still kills us. A few years ago when Kennedy was still with the Angels, I mentioned that I'd rather see Kendrick bat against us than Kennedy. Everyone when nuts telling me how much better Kendrick is than Kennedy. After all these years, Kennedy is still killing us at Fenway and kendrick is in the minors. You can't explain why but some players just seem to do well against certain teams.

I thought you were an American Ex-Pat studying in England.

It's ridiculous to be losing to the A's at home. They should be rolling over the A's at Fenway. Injuries are no excuse. The lineup tonight was an embarrassment.

Consider me more of a hybrid. Born in England, lived a bit in the US and England, in school in England but probably going to grad school in the US. Also I relatively frequently go back and forth between the two.

A s***** game. But an enjoyable thread. Go figure.

I'm going to consult my 1.75 liter bottle of Vodka.

At least the Yankees lost too.

Agreed.

I vote to see more bush leaguers in tomorrow's lineup to give the A's a chance. Start Bates again at 1st, maybe Chip Ambres at 2nd and Josh Reddick can play LF to give Bay a rest.

Yeah, but you gotta figure Drew was getting a day off and Pedroia's wife had a baby. So we'll be in much better shape tomorrow.

Seems like it was a combo of things. A's pitcher having a stellar night (for him, his breaking ball was good) and our batters all imitating slow shuffling zombies.

if you picked tonight to attend your one game at Fenway all year.......lulz

I saw the second game of the last Seattle game as my one game all year, but still, it was great to see a game at Fenway.
