Hunter at - 2.9 career.

You think he is anything less than stellar in CF?

Saves more runs than any man in baseball, in my humble opinion.

Tom

I don't think he's a stellar CF anymore. He's got great hands and good instincts but not the greatest range. Remember, UZR measures a player's range.

Yup' date=' just like UZR has been around since the 1800's and it's valid to compare a guy's range at 3rd to a guy' range in center [/quote']

I was comparing outfielders?

They are using the same f***ing numbers, brother.

Again, Bill James and his evil spawn did not invent the calculator, nor can they quantify a hard hit ball over a soft line drive, or a smooth infield over a chopped up post NFL infield.

In other words, UZR HAS been around since the 1800's.

Check your Baseball Encyclopedia.

Is this a serious question, Coco?

Is that range?

Tom

Kinda hard to tell, I don't know where he started and how long he went.

And if you find the UZR appalling, you may want to look away for this. Hunter has career negative figures in: Total fielding runs above average, Total zone fielding runs above average, and negative since 2005 in Outfield arm runs above average.

I'm not disagreeing with you that Hunter is a good fielder--I think he is. But I don't think Hunter's negative figure is a reason that UZR is a bad stat.

Started where he always does.

EDIT: Not apalling (sp?) just funny. Show me the formula please?

Or is that still a secret? :D

Actually, that's EXACTLY what UZR does. It differentiates whether a ball was a grounder, soft line drive, hard line drive or pop up. Then calculates where that ball dropped or was caught, and compares that data to other players at the same position.

Tell me HOW.

Give me the f***ing formula.

Is it still a secret?:D

lol you're a clown

That's funny.

I was just thinking that you were a gay little man who could use a laugh.

HTH.

So UZR does not measure a SS arm?

How about 3B, man you need an arm there right?

Not according to UZR. :D

As everyone who has ever set foot on a diamond knows, a throwing arm is meaningless.

It's not like the entire f***ing game is based on it.

Read up.

"Note: Before I begin explaining the UZR system, keep in mind that there are at least two components of defense that UZR does not address: One, an outfielders "arm", and two, an infielders skill at turning the double play. Of course, these skills can be measured (and they are in my Super-LWTS system). They are just not included in UZR. Like ZR, UZR is designed to measure and quantify only that skill which enables a fielder to turn batted balls into outs." :D :D

But don't get it twisted, this dude has a BIG calculator.:D

"You can take the average out-conversion rates by sub-zone and apply this rate to the number of balls in play for each fielder for each sub-zone to establish a baseline. This baseline will show the number of outs an average fielder would have had, had he received the same number of balls in play for each sub-zone that our specific fielder received. This is, essentially, UZR, or Ultimate Zone Rating. There are other contexts that have not been considered, which we will get to later on."

This dude's calculator could hit 60.

Without steroids.

Tom

Thank you for that, guys.

EDIT: Oh s***, thank me, I just read arm and started writing.:(

It's not a stat about arms, it's a stat about range. Is OPS a flawed stat because it doesn't include speed?

EDIT: I think the formula I posted is a more updated version than the article.

See?

I knew that, but I tried to bail you out.

YOU said it was a measure of defense.

Tom

What? I''m trying to apologize?

Posted

Sorry, you are right, that formula is f***ing still gay, but I tried to apologize for something here.

They won't let me talk here. :(

G'night sir' date=' enjoyed the debate. And the part I edited was when you called me a dumb f***. Personal attacks are nay okay.[/quote']

Yeah, I gave up trying to reason with the guy a while ago. The Yankees fans on this site are 100x more enjoyable to talk with.
