I watched 50 yr old Ray Mercer who in his prime as a boxer never fought for the title or even got into the top 10 rankings, dust some other douchebag in 8 seconds last week.

Give me the boxer all day long over these other m/arts guys, its never a contest.

Please, the guy he fought, Tim Sylvia, is a joke now. Sylvia is a can, Mercer has heavy hands, I saw that result (maybe not as quick) coming from a mile away.

Kimbo Slice beat Ray Mercer. Kimbo is a lower level mixed-martial artist.

The guy he fought was a joke?Ray Mercer was a joke in Boxing....20 years ago.

If these guys could actually use their hands like boxers do they wouldnt be dicking around with this minor league s*** while fighting for beer money, they'd be boxing for real money.

Ray Mercer is 50 years old and was a career journeyman boxer, the fact that hes competetive with this crew at all tells you all you need to know about their talent level, he wouldnt be allowed to box in the US due to his age and futility.

That being said

I think the top 5 heavy weights in boxing are now all Russians or former Soviet Union states.

Boxing is dying a slow death due the lack of a heavyweight with any kind of charisma or opposition and also the fact that network TV hasnt carried a big fight in 20 years which handcuffs the public from paying.

Don King did a lot of damage to the sport by making enormous money for himself and basically making the sport too expensive for the public to watch.Who is going to pay 55.00 to watch Vlad Klitchko fight Joe s*** the Ragman on TV?Id rather watch fat people f*** than that crap but give me a Shane Mosely fight and Ill pay.Im not adverse to driving to NY or A/C for a title fight if the competetion is right, I had no problems driving 350 miles to see Mickey Ward fight Arturo Gatti in A/C and if theres a couple of good fighters in Madison Square Garden I can be convinced to go.

If I wanted to watch no talent ass hats fight outside the rules of Boxing there are 10 bars locally that have them live every weekend and theyre generally open invitation for anyone who thinks theyre good enuff...

When I see a kid like Jorge Rivera make a name for himself in the UFC and then see him get his ass kicked by a 160lb Portugese kid at the bar Rivera bounced at I cant take the sport all that seriously.

Especially those f***ing reality shows, my God are they gay.

I am positive those shows target the closet homosexuals exclusively.

I'll take the MMA guy over the boxer any day of the week.

Boxers only know one thing: punch the guy opposite you. MMAs know a variety of disciplines: boxing, wrestling (real wrestling, not WWE), all the various martial arts (mostly muay thai boxing and jiu-jitsu).

Boxing also allows guys with probable concussions to take a standing 8 count. Any sign of an MMA fighter being unable to defend himself, the ref stops the match.

You sound like a guy who is ignorant to change and the coming of a new fighting sport.

These MMA guys are also trained (kick)boxers. Guys like Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Georges St. Pierre, BJ Penn, Kenny Florian, Frank Mir, Thiago Alves, etc., those guys are just a few of the many world class strikers in MMA today.

One thing many people don't know is that the beginning UFC's weren't so much "mixed martial arts" but a way to determine which martial art was best. At UFC 1, Royce Gracie (best jiu jitsu artist ever) won the tournament while being severely outweighed (30-40 pounds in each fight) and won with his submissions, beating a former boxer (Art Jimmerson), a great striker (Ken Shamrock), and another great fighter at the time (Gerard Gordeau). If (more like when) a mixed martial artist today takes a fight with a boxer to the ground, the fight would literally be over in a second.
