I'd have to say the best player I ever saw was Mariano. It's really unfair to say a player for an opposing team, since you don't see him play that often. However, with all the games I've gone to, the best player I've ever seen is Mariano. Day in and day out, for over a decade, he's been either the best or one of the best at his position.

Not only that, but what I call a consummate professional. Just goes out and does his job with a quiet humility. I don't know of a single baseball fan that doesn't like him as a player...they may not like his uniform, but appreciate him as a baseball player.

Mariano? That's shocking. While he does have electric stuff, I think you've given us all a jolt here. Greatest reliever? Yes, that would be a valid argument, but greatest PLAYER? That's a bolt from the blue, find another conduit for your Mariano man-love.

I'd say it was unquestionably Mariano.

What a lot of people are doing here is listing great players that they saw play once or twice when they came to visit their home stadium.

I saw Bonds hit a mammoth homerun once. Was he the greatest I ever saw play? No. I saw one game of his live.

I've seen over 100 games in which Mariano pitched. He's succeeded at a rate well above the average. I've seen him mow down opponents and make it look easy. I saw him pitch his heart out against the Sox in 2003 in Game 7. I saw him dominate in the 90's as a setup man...and dominate nearly 15 years later as a closer.

No player I've seen dominated more or succeeded more. He gets my vote.

I'll agree with you that Mariono is one of the greatest to play the game at his position but a closer isnt as important a position as a starting pitcher or a skill players position...

Well, that is your opinion. It is not mine. Plus, I'd guess I've seen hundreds of games more than you have live.

It is my opinion, after all. I don't see why anyone is debating my opinion on the matter.

No offense taken whatsoever. I forget that you're new and you don't know my panties don't get bunched up that quickly.

I just view player as just that. Hitter, pitcher, fielder...any and all of the above. Some people think pitchers are not players...that pitchers shouldn't win MVPs. It's a personal definition.

These two have to be in the United Nations. If we can heal the rif between Sox and Yankees fans than anything is possible.

no i still loathe the evil empire but if there is a Yankees fan that wants to have a legitimate discussion and valid points without being a Douche than he is cool with me we might hate eachothers teams but at least he makes good conversations
