Per rotoworld. That would be huge. i would assume that spells the end of Cervelli in NY for the time being. I would think they would send him to AAA to start and the yankees would keep Cash until Molina comes back.

Are you nuts Jacko? What is he going to prove in SWB? He's a much better catcher than Cash. He stays here. That isn't even a question. You need a defensive catcher for Posada in the late innings.

Posada comes back, Cash goes down.

Nady comes back, Berroa goes down.

The real question is what happens when Molina comes back. Do you send down Gardner?

If you keep him, you have Damon, Cabrera, Swisher, Matsui, Nady, and Gardner. Six OFs are too much. I hope they can trade Matsui for some pen help, but no one will take that salary.

Gom, I would love nothing more than to have Cervelli stay in NY, but I really dont think that is how its gonna happen. Here's why. Posada should get back about 1-2 weeks before Molina. And if you send Cash down, he hits waivers, has the capability to refuse his assignment should he clear waivers and then he has the capability to sign with another team. Whereas Cervelli need only use an option. So I think the Yankees will send Cervelli to AAA and keep Posada and Cash up as the two catchers. If Posada reinjures the hammy, then they can put him back on the DL and bring Cervelli back up. Also, Cervelli has been dynamite for us, but it is a small sample size and he does need to work on his offensive game. Having him start on a regular basis will help develop that. He has always been a good eye, gap power kind of kid. If he is able to develop any further power, he might project as a starter, which would significantly help this team.

Gom, your justification for not sending guys down always seems to be "they have nothing to prove in AAA". You have to understand that their are other reasons, besides what their minor league numbers were, to send a guy down.

So you'd rather have 6 OFs then 3 catchers?

I'd be surprised if anyone claims Cash. If they do, no loss. The guy is just plain terrible.

I'd love to see Molina and Cervelli split catching duties with Posada as the DH.

Hey Jacko...here's an experiment we can do....

Let's take a look at the Yankee pitching since Posada has been out, and the pitching when Posada catches, as opposed to the pitching when Posada catches. Let's let bygones be bygones, and judge Posada from here on in. Fair enough? I just want you to see what I see.

Listen, no one in the world will be happier than me if Posada frames a pitch.

the only way I could see what you see is if I took a lot of shrooms and stared at a poster of pink butterflies.

In all seriousness, it is very difficult to assess because, once again, there will be a lot of variability. Lets say CC goes down tonight for 4 weeks, and we get Igawa for the next 4 weeks. Well, then Posada is going to be worse by default because the quality of the pitcher has worsened. This is my point. I know that Posada isnt great behind the dish. I just think his O outweighs his D. Now, if Cervelli goes to AAA and comes back to the bigs next yr with double digit homer power, then maybe you'd have a point.

It was Cash that was sent down, but it doesn't make that big of a difference. Molina will be back soon enough, and then Cervelli will go down as well.

In a case where the starting five change, we'll discount those starts. The bullpen has been a revolving door, so all's fair there.

Look, no one will be happier than me if Posada frames a pitch. I doubt he'll start doing it now.
