I think Dan Bard for Nick Johnson would make a lot more sense. He may have a higher upside than Manny D but he doesn' thave the track record of success and health that Delcarmen does.

The Sox give up someone who has some question marks and the Nats give up a guy who has some question marks.

That said, is it possible that the bidding "settled" on Manny Delcarmen because the Sox were unwilling to move Bard?

Which one of them is the bigger prize?

Well, JD Does have a good bat. He is a career .283, .391, .501 hitter (.892 OPS). Although he isn't a big HR hitter. The real problem is that he can't ever play a full season. He'd probably have 100RBIs, 20-30 HRs if he could play 150+ games.

He's one of the best on the team and not making an out and I'm pretty sure that's the most important thing for an offensive player to do.

He also plays an above average RF.

Fixed that for ya.

He actually has enough range to play CF on a regular basis if needed.

I question your loyalty (and mental capacity) as well.

To say that JD completely rakes is ridiculous. Minus one month in June last year, he has not raked with this team. I know he is a valuable player, but come on. I know he is a clutch player as well, and glad he is on the team.

JD doesn't really rake. He's a great hitter, with excellent plate control, when he swings he hits the ball hard, but he's got to be one of the quietest .900 OPS hitters I have ever seen.

Hell, I'm not complaining. Like Kilo said, he plays a good RF in a tough RF to play, he's been more or less healthy for an extended period (despite chronic problems), and he's a better middle of the order bat than most teams have. He's good.

Still, find something to do with Papi. He's a collapsed star, a black hole, whatever you want to call it. Get him glasses or lasik or something, let him sort it out at AAA and then give him another shot. We all want him to be successful.

Man, I've been watching Big Papi a lot the last few weeks, and I just feel bad for the guy. He's a player who's lost all the skills that made him what he was. People used to equate 'David Ortiz' with 'clutch home-run' or 'most-feared hitter' and now it looks like he might never get that back. I can only imagine how it must feel when everything you were known for vanishes as quickly as it like it has for him.

I hope he can at least manage 10-15 HRs this year, maybe 50-60 RBIs before it's all said and done.
