There are lots of people who think Wang and Hughes are good pitchers at their core. Just because Wang is injury prone and sucks this season for whatever reason doesn't mean he won't be sticking it up the Sox collective asses in the next few months or years.

Well, except he never did *that* even when he was on top of his game. The Red Sox have always had his number.

I think he's had a couple of decent games against the Sox at home where the YS crew can set the field up for him, and grounders can't make it through the fields of autum wheat.

5/20!!

Did he get some zits on his face on May 20th? Is that what you mean he's broken out?

2 for 5 and his first HR of the year...WAY to early to determine if he's broken out.

its funny how for weeks now, no announcer ever called him Big Papi anymore and if you listen to just about every broadcast call of the HR, its all FINALLY, BIG PAPI HITS ONE!

Getting caught, and banned for 50 games, after being a beloved son of Boston wasn't worth it.

If you want to believe that he miraculously turned his career around after nearly being released, while teaming up with another steroid user, and then he comes crashing down to earth just two years later when stricter testing standards are introduced, that's your prerogative.

Add in the facts that he stated that he may have taken stuff when he was younger all but seals it for me.

Gom crashes and burns once again.

I'm tired of waiting. He's got the Toronto series' date=' and then after that it's time.[/quote']

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree.

Make up an injury if you have to ... but he needs to be elsewhere soon if he can't produce.

Today was awful,he got a hit but K'd miserably in the clutch.

f***, i saw people fall before but never this bad this quickly, either he and manny were lovers or he shared another thing that manny was involved in.

f*** hes terrible and when your DH has 1hr and is hitting .200 as we approach June somebobdy needs to make a decision for the benefit of the team, everyones saying the right things in the clubhouse but eventually someone needs to tell him how bad he sucks...

Is Chris Carter alive in RI?If hes ever going to be anything nows the time to see it.

I think they don't think much of Chris Carter, not when Bailey is getting all these AB's to suck, Ortiz continues to play everyday, and rumors of acquiring super stars (kidding) like Nick Johnson. They obviously think he isn't much of an improvement.

It pains me to say so, but I'm afraid I agree...although if Jon Lester could produce at all, the Sox might be two or three games up in the standings right now. The heat would still be on Ortiz, but the sense of urgency might not be so great.

Ortiz is done. Tek has supplemented him as the power from the Left side() He's becomming more painful to watch at bat then Dice-K is in the mound.

I will forever be great full for what Ortiz did for Boston. He will always be a favorite of mine.

But it's time to move on. Whether that be bench him, get him to the minors some how, trade him or flat out release him.

Send Dice-K/Lowell to St. Louis for Rasmus and Anderson

Go get a slugging 1B.

Let Ortiz ride off into the sunset.

Nick Johnson? I dunno, I've always liked the guy and waited for him to stay healthy and really break out...a few yrs ago I recall saying the Sox should acquire him, he's a good fielder and historically puts up great OBP numbers, but...

He's back playing fulltime now, hitting .337 and gonna cost more than he would have in days gone by, but he's still only got 4 HRs and 7 doubles (plus a triple)...so only 12 of his 56 hits have gone for extra bases. Sox need better power numbers than that from a guy that might cost some decent talent going the other way.

That all depends though, rician. If you look at your order, Ellsbury leading off with a .336OBP is not great. Whereas Pedroia is getting on base at a .400+ clip. If you obtained Johnson, moving Ellsbury to 9 would be a massive boon for your squad. Here's a lineup you can wrap your head around

1. Pedroia 2B

2. Johnson DH

3. Youkilis 1B

4. Bay LF

5. Drew RF

6. Lowell 3B

7. Varitek C

8. Lugo SS

9. Ellsbury CF

that gives you 3 consecutive .400+ OBP guys on in front of Jason Bay, who is your best RBI guy at this point.

Until Nick Johnson goes JD Drew on us.

With our staff shaping up with the addition of Smoltz and Bucholz pitching lights out in RI and our other young arms pitching well we have the material to bring in a power lefty hitter for the run.

We got off to a suck start but when Ells started getting on base our offense was invigorated accordingly.

I still like him at leadoff and think he will develop the needed patience to be a premier leadoff guy in this league but i also think the front office dropped the ball this offseason by failing to revamp our offense.

Consider the fact that Lowell Tek Lugo and Bay all have done better than expected and had they not we would be sitting behind toronto and ny and screaming for Ortiz and Francona's head.

Winning hides a lot of problems, losing exposes them dramatically.

1st place keeps us passively optimistic.

Going after Nick Johnson now is a total Jacko play, IMO.

Is that what JD does? I was unaware of that.

Then you haven't been watching Red Sox baseball.

I question your loyalty for this team.

Lets just remember that everyone including myself said (and some still do) Varitek was beyond done all last year, and even at the beginning of this year. Now he has 10 home runs.

It's time to move on after 1/4 of a season?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see him turn it around. And I will continue to cheer him on. But he has shown me nothing to make me think he will bounce back. Listen I'm willing to take the beating if he does bounce back. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

The latest Nick Johnson rumor I'd heard was manny Delcarmen for Johnson. That's a lot to give away for a guy who has had tremendous difficulty staying healthy.

And no one give me the "the injuries weren't his fault, they were flukes" argument, because they happened, period.

It may also have been flukey when JD Drew suffered some of his injuries...like that time he got his vagina caught in the car door...but nontheless repeated trips to the DL are a huge concern and red flag.
