3. The Red Sox are a really good, really deep team. I'll be the first to admit it - I was far too reactionary when the team sat at 2-6. I'm still not sold on Varitek and Lowell over the course of 162, but I know Youkilis, Bay, and Pedroia will all produce for the remainder of this season. This pitching depth is unmatched across the entire league. The bullpen is the best in baseball, and will get better once Jones or Bard replaces Javier Lopez.

No kidding, people were jumping ship on the season already. Our bullpen is nasty though.

we will be. Our offense and starting rotation will crush the mediocre to bad teams and our closer will get his share of saves.

So its good enough to maybe get them the wild card then get crushed in the playoffs.

not what I am saying at all. I am saying that we have a pretty big flaw right now, but we have the personell to right the ship in that department. We just need to see if it is just a bad timing issue, with 3 dependable pen arms going in the tank at once, or is this an issue of those guys being done, figured out, or washed up. We'll see. Regardless, I think we can win the wild card even if our pen continues to s*** the bed, because I expect that 3 to 4 slots in our rotation should shorten the bridge on a consistent basis to Mo so much so that we shouldnt have to worry about too many middle innings. The question is, can we get the right mix of players in that pen before the playoffs, or really, before the pennant races heat up.

I'd love it if we took a shot at someone. Maybe a brawl. Go head high to Youks or Pedroia with a true Joba speed fastball. Except this time' date=' aim for the ear hole.[/quote']

lol

Hey, if Joba wants to get himself thrown out of 3, 4 starts, that's fine with me.

I liked what I saw in the series. It's only one series though. So my gloating won't be intolerable:D

they'd suspend him for 6 games like they did with Beckett. It would work rather well actually' date=' we could skip his start and try to keep his innings low[/quote']

1) Beckett's pitch wasn't intentional, while Joba's pitch would be intentional, and pretty clearly too since he is pretty bad at playing the fool. Not to mention the league office would already be onto him and know full well what he was up to.

2) MLB has all but said that they will be cracking down on this kind of behavior. If Beckett got one start just because Abreu is a whining, knobgobbling tool, I think Joba would be up for at least three.

3) How would it work well? NYY needs all the pitchers they can get right now, with CC and Burnett not pitching well, Wang having a 34.50 ERA, and a taxed bullpen (in April).

To be fair, Burnett had been very good until that last start.

And I know no one here is saying Ellsbury showed no class and that it's NY sports radio doing it but I can voice my opinion here, not there

I was listening to Mike Francesa while coming back to work - he did not say anything about Ellsbury being classless neither did the callers. Craig & Boomer did make fun of Posada and Pettitte in the morning as they should. Did not listen to 1050 ESPN - but I will be surprised if Michael Kay goes too negative on Ellsbury.

Here are the things that I also heard. Everyone pretty much agreed that the great pitching Yankees appeared to have before the season has fallen apart. Joba should belong to pen - but they have noone to replace him. If Hughes can't perform they have another huge hole in rotation. Bruney being on DL has put a big dent on the bridge to Mo - they do not have a 8th innings guy. In addition - 3rd base looks like a vacant spot and they miss a power bat in the line-up.

Did not hear a single negative comment about Red Sox.

My guess would be at some point Joba does go back to the pen, and the Yankees bring in a SP to replace him. Kevin Millwood for example.

the sox are a good team. For the first 8 games, they were a terrible team, for the next 10 games, they were perfect. Lets see which team they settle out as.

In the middle, leaning towards the positive. They're obviously a playoff contender, no mystery there.

Anyone who knows anything about baseball knows that the sox will be a playoff contender

Wow thanks! You asked which team they will shake out to be, and I answered that since they are a playoff contender, they're closer to the perfect side.

Then you definatly were not listening to Mike Francesa because he bluntly put it that Jacoby and the Red Sox were laughing at the Yankees and Pettite needed to step off and...blah...blah...blah and he himself said that they should put Ellsbury on his behind next time they see him and then all the New Yorwkers called in and agreed.

In the Al east if you can play .575 ball you win 93 games, a good year but will it be enuff?

that may be good to get you the division but the wildcard maybe coming elsewhere.

I think of it this way

we play 1458 innings a year,

6ip is a quality start, that gives you 972ip from your starters and leaves 486ip for your bullpen.

Your closer is good for 75-90ip per year so that leaves 400 for your middle guys.

I like our chances in this arena.

Anyone watch ny last night?

Sabby went 6, gave up 4 and a foul ball hr on a hi outside fastball that Inge pulled 475 feet.

When rightys pull your hi outside fastball 475 feet foul you dont have much velocity.

How many innings is Nick Swisher prepared to throw for the yankees?
