The Tigers need a SS. And where discussing Lugo earlier this season. It's not insane to believe he could be a throw in any deal. Just like Lowell was in the Beckett deal.

it is insane. If they are dealing Miggy it is likely because they are shedding salary. Why the hell would they accept a guy with 2 yrs and 18 mil left on his deal if they were shedding salary?

And' date=' if the Tigers are looking to move Miggy, it would be in a rebuilding move. In no way, shape or form is Lugo a guy you get when you are rebuilding. He's old, bad, and overpaid[/quote']

It was just a best case scenario type thing, get Miggy, get rid of Lugo in one fell swoop:lol:

just the fact that you are now willing to trade talent to get a guy who is on Tex's level offensively makes me smile. Do you really think dealing the amount of talent you would have to deal to get Miggy and his step down in defense is worth not signing Tex?

So offering 170 million was trying NOT to sign him?

Well, your awesome take on logic makes me see life in a whole new light.

Is that your excuse. THEY TRIED!! I PROMISE!! They did make a big offer, that much we know. But they didnt go the extra mile. They didnt ensure that their #1 priority was suiting up with them. And because of that, questions like these exist

Everything else aside, why does everyone think it will cost a ton of propsects? I understand Miggy value. But his contract will only hurt it. Whenever we discuss trades here, the contract is always considered, and usually because of it(depending on how much it is) calls for less propsects if the team is willing to pick up the whole contract. Why would this case be different?

How many teams can take on 141M? If the Sox gave 3 top prospects and took all the $ on the contract, I would think that Detroit would like that. Assuming it's a must they deal his contract off the book of course.

I keep wondering how you get all this inside information on the way the negotiations went, i mean, either that, or you're just typing to hear the click of the keyboard.

Well he's as good or better hitter then Tex. He is 3 years younger. Can play multiple positions at a passable level. His deal is 1yr/40M less then Tex. The only downside is the possible talent the team might have to give up. This guy like Hanley is a legit stud, so yes everything considered, I wouldn't be upset if they moved some top prospects for him.

What did Detroit trade anyways, Maybin, Miller, and who? 2 top guys and some low level guys?

because he's 25' date=' one of the top 10 offensive players in the game and is a lineup altering force.[/quote']

This just answers why they could consider moving prospects for him.

The Tigers would send outfielder Cameron Maybin, pitcher Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and minor league pitchers Eulogio De La Cruz, Dallas Trahern and Burke Badenhop to the Marlins

Add Miggys new deal in to the mix, and Buchholz +2 maybe 3, doesn't seem to be too far off.

Because he's fat and he could eat your family.

THERE WAS NO POINT IN GOING THE EXTRA MILE. IF THE SOX INCREASED THEIR OFFER BY 10 MIL, THE YANKEES WOULD HAVE GONE UP ANOTHER 10 MIL. IT WOULD HAVE KEPT GOING LIKE THAT, TO THE POINT WHERE IF THE SOX DID GET HIM, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LUDICROUS CONTRACT PROBABLY IN THE MID-200 MILLIONS. THE FACT THAT TEX PREFERED NEW YORK TO BOSTON ANYWAY ONLY PUTS THE NAIL IN THAT COFFIN.

I have said from the moment Tex signed, whatever the Sox offered, NYY would have gone bigger. I don't think the Yanks ever intended to let Tex go to Boston. If he went to LAA they might have let him go. But they where going to outbid Boston no matter what.

Nothing will stop the CC fat jokes, if your fat and play for the other team, it will come up at some point. Just like I would expect Miggy fatty jokes to come from Yanks fans.

Why else would we come here?

What would have constituted "the extra mile?" By all accounts I've read, the Red Sox were told by Boras that there was a $200m offer on the table. So they shoulda believed him and bid $201m, or $21m higher than the Yanks signed him for? It appears that it was that disclosure by Boras that lead Henry to say the Sox would not be a factor.

Also, weren't the Yankees given the last chance to bid? Boras/Tex didn't get the $180m offer, as far as I've heard, from the Yanks then come back and see if the Sox would beat it. All indications were that Tex preferred to be in pinstripes, but might have become a Sox player had the bought into the possibly fictitious $200m offer.

So quit trying to make it seem like the Sox lost out because of an unwillingness to pay a mere $2m more per year and understand that it is quite possible that the Sox pulled out because of disingenuous negotiations and the fact that Tex preferred to go to NY.

hahahahah that's priceless.

The thought of a trade for Miggy? Or the Richard Simmons reference?

Why? Is he eating all of the sushi at the post-game buffets?

His post is vague, but has an interesting overall theme.

If the Sox could move Dice-K for an impact everyday player. I think it should be considered.
