Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger explains why C.C. Sabathia is taking his time while mulling over the Yankees' six-year, $140MM offer. Graziano believes Sabathia and his agents are waiting to see what the Dodgers propose.

Graziano speaks of "rumblings today that the Dodgers either have offered or are about to offer Sabathia a six-year contract worth between $110 and $120 million." He believes this could compel the Yankees to increase their offer, just to ensure a ridiculous ($30MM+) gap between the two proposals.

I can't imagine what the fallout would be if CC decided on LAD. Even if he doesn't that Yanks will have to pony up even more money to get him. Maybe leaving less for other's they are in pursuit of?

Likely locations:(IMO)(no particular order)

LAD

LAA

NYY

MIL- (Long shot)

I can't see any other teams getting in this race.

I could see the Rangers shocking everyone. Sabathia would be a decent place to start to rebuild that devestated pitching staff.

Brewers Could Offer C.C. Six Years

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 6 at 9:14am CST]

According to Newsday's Ken Davidoff, the Brewers might offer a six-year contract to C.C. Sabathia. Davidoff has a source who said the possible sixth year would bring the total value of the deal to about $110MM, still $30MM short of what the Yankees have offered, but $10MM more than Milwaukee's initial proposal.

Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News has a source of his own who doubts that Sabathia has serious suitors other than the Yankees and Brewers at this point. The source said to McCarron that a deal with the Giants is "not happening," and doubts that the Angels were ever involved.

Yesterday, Jon Heyman wrote that the free agent lefty received two offers from teams other than the Yankees and Brewers.

And the San Francisco Chronicle's Bruce Jenkins thinks that the Giants have a chance with Sabathia even if they can't compete dollar for dollar with the Yankees.

At first I thought CC was trying to posture for more $ from the Yanks, by not taking there offer.

Now it seems he doesn't want to pitch in NY. The Brewers offering 6 years might be enough to tempt him to leave money on the table to stay in the NL.

I thought at the beginning of the off season CC going to NYY was almost a certain.

Now it seems anything but.

SAN FRANCISCO

I think that's where he goes if he turns down the Yankees. Not Milwaukee, not LA, but to the Giants.

The Giants weren't mentioned alot when I started this thread. But I agree SF has a good shot at him.
