Bartolo Colon Suspended Without Pay; Sox Career Likely Over

Recommended Posts

Colon hasn't pitched much, but when he did pitch he threw reasonably well. His lack of major league appearances suggests that he might be available to the Sox on the same terms as last year -- come in, rehab for most of the year in the minors, appear once or twice in the bigs, hopefully at a time when you could use a jolt to your rotation because of injury. Those guys can be very useful if they have their brief moments of health at the right time.

All in all, Colon was a positive this year and I'd take him again on the same terms if he wanted to come back and work with Farrell again.

Thoughts?

I'd absolutely take him back on the same type of deal. While he was an asset for a short time, his string of injuries and subsequent inavailability at other times when they needed makes me think anything more is a mistake.

last year, no one wanted to take a chance on him because everyone doubted his ability to get big league hitters out anymore. this year, he proved that he could albeit for a short period of time. because of that, I could see more teams wanting to sign him to the similar low-risk, high-reward deal that he has now and he'd probably be inclined to go somewhere that doesn't have the pitching depth we have

As long as he'll go for that low-risk, high reward deal at the right price again, not a bad move for Boston to pick him up again.

He'll get a 4-5 mil 1yr deal. The biggest question was the fastball and if it could come back. It did.

Well no, the other question was could he sustain it, and he didn't.

Red Sox placed RHP Bartolo Colon on the suspended list.

Whatever it takes for a World Series ring? Hardly. Colon didn't want to pitch in relief, so it seems that his Red Sox career is over. He's already gone home to the Dominican Republic.

Yahoo! Sports added that he said he was going to the DR to tend to a personal matter but called the Sox when he got there to tell them he wasn't coming back

Wasn't he tending to a personal matter in the DC? What's with all the hate then? Did I miss something?

9/19 Extra Bases:

Bartolo Colon is on the restrictive list because he stayed in the Dominican Republic. Apparently, he was uncomfortable with his role as a relief pitcher/potential spot starter. He is, in effect, suspended without pay.

f*** him.

he had a legit pop to win a title and contribute heavily,i had high hopes for him after his decent starts.

he failed

he didnt want to make the effort and i wonder if his friendship with manny had anything to do with this?

in any case we move on.
