No - I was sold after the Manny trade. But - we need to score runs against pitchers like Burnett(even though having a career year) - if we have to win it all.

Lowell, Papi, Tek they all just look old. Bay is doing all he can - but he is not Manny( not that Manny wanted to be here). Can't expect any more from Kotsay/Coco/Lowrie etc. Youk slowed down a bit as he always does. D-Ped has been carrying this team for a while now - I wonder how much he has in his tank. I hope Drew does well - who knows.

This is not like other years when Papi/Manny can change the momentum of a game with one swing of the bat.

Good observation. That's why their average is so high. The night they are on- they just pile up runs. Other nights - opponents shut us out.

Edit - other night Cash hit a 3 run homer - so the final score looks like the offense dominated. How often we can expect Cash to do that? Our bullpen is actually doing well better than expected.

The good thing for the sox is that Beckett came back strong and Byrd likely wont be needed come October. Beckett, Lester, DiceK should be a nice top 3 to throw at any team. As of right now, the first round matchup would be ANA vs BOS. Lackey, Saunders, and Santana is a pretty nice top 3 to throw at you too. Weaver or Garland at the 4 is pretty nice too.

Burnett is defintely not having a career year. That proves that you judge pitchers by wins, which proves how limited your reasoning is.

Dude, what teams don't struggle against ace type pitchers. The Red Sox beat Lackey., K-Rod, and the rest of that Angels staff countless teams in the playoffs. That just proves how much of a tiny sample size you are using to validate your point. The Red Sox have three pitchers that can make other hitters look just as bad.

Oh, and all they've done is score more runs since he's been gone. Probably not causation, but rather the fact that this offense has always had a premium offense. Jason Bay has been about as good as Manny has, but the Red Sox have added David Ortiz, Jed Lowrie, a much more tolerable Jason Varitek, and have got what Manny produced in Jason Bay.

This is not like other years when Papi/Manny can change the momentum of a game with one swing of the bat.

IMO Hank has probably told Girardi to try to winn for Moose, but play the AAA guys for the rest of the games. I am interested to see the Yanks game 2 lineup.
