Missed the game. How bad was Fernandez? And anyone see the Thornton-Orr fight?

I did pass by a tv when Drury scrapped with Krejci....Drury? Came over, dropped the gloves and was down on the ice in 2 seconds.

The game winner he allowed with 6 minutes to play was absolutely inexcuseable. NY flipped the puck behind the net on the left side and for some reason he did a weird spin move type thing (to the left of the goal), leaving the right side of the net wide open. The puck bounced around to to the right side directly to the Rangers and it was an easy goal. It was hard to watch.

Manny Fernandez is really bad today. I mean really bad. Why wasn't he traded again?

Makes too much money and has really struggled lately.

Time to LTIR Fernandez and call up Rask? It's clear Manny isn't right.

Man, I went all the way down to MSG (if you get the chance to go there, don't - it's a shithole) and get treated to a stinker by Manny. Despite his play though I loved the way we fought in the 3rd.

3 soft as hell goals. 3??!!?

Get his ass out of here.

Yea, Thornton did a very classy thing actually. Orr's jersey came over his head and he was blinded by it so Thornton called over the linesmen to break up the fight.

Wow, not sure Orr would have extended that courtesy...but then again, it could very well be that the two have some mutual respect. Orr's a tough customer, glad Thornton did well.

I think there is a decent possibility that Manny would have been moved if someone wanted him...and his salary. There's just too many decent goalies out there now, many making much less than him, who are his equal, meaning less opportunity league-wide.

There is a certain code among the league's heavyweights and that's one of the items. I don't remember which game it was yesterday but there was a fight where when the two fell to the ice, one guy held the other guy's head to avoid it from hitting the ice.

If you watch enough fights though (youtube has tons of 'em) you will see occasions where the sweater is pulled over the head and the guy continues to wail...not often, but often enough .

None of those fights were probably of the staged variety that the Thornton-Orr fight was but obviously, there are certain guys in hockey who don't carry that level of respect for their opponent. I was glad to see Thornton wasn't one of those guys.

Point of fact, if you watch Lucic destroy Komisarek, while the sweater wasn't over his head, Lucic tangled Komisarek's right arm up in his sweater while he was busy pounding him. It's not as bad as sweater over the head, but realistically there was nothing Komisarek could do about Lucic blowing him up either.

Lucic also hammered a dude when he was down recently...of course that was somewhat understood considering the guy suckered him a bit...but still against the code.

I went to youtube earlier and viewed a bunch of fights...there were more sweater over the head things than I would have expected.

That's just strategic, everyone tries to disable the other fighter's punching arm with the jersey, Komisarek just doesn't know how to defend against that as well as Lucic does. The Thornton fight was where he accidentally grabbed the jersey instead of the helmet, Orr was blinded so he called it off, they are pretty different examples in my book.

He's playing now though...

And christ, Mason is so good. Always in perfect position and composed and not flopping around like good old Byron Dafoe used to do. He's going to be one of the best for a long long time.

Scary thing is there's like 4 young goalies right now that have the potential to be amazing... Price, Mason, Rask, and Quick.

What can you do?

Manny's mojo combined with Mason standing on his head for 60 minutes, it was kind of expected. We needed a flukey goal and we couldn't get it.

Plus Rinne from Nashville and perhaps Jonas Hiller of the Ducks.

Rumor is he enjoys the nightlife in Montral a bit too much.

As we all do. Try living here and not indulging yourself

But Price is on his way back up after the way he's played the past three games. He's 21 years old, there's bound to be peaks and valleys along the way as you'll see with Rask

Oh lord, yes. Remember that inconsistency everyone slams Thomas for? Well, Rask is probably going to be much more inconsistent. Sometimes I think we don't realize just how good we have it right now with Timmy.

Can you imagine having gone through the last 3 seasons with Hannu freakin' Toivonen as our main goaltender?

EVERY goalie stumbles from time to time. I believe it was just on Saturday that Brodeur allowed 6 goals and got pulled

Ridiculously bad third period for the Bruins. I thought they had this one. Awful.

And don't be too quick to blame Thomas. Look at the box score. This was very much a team loss.

That's fine, but Thomas still let in 5 goals. Sometimes you need a netminder to stand on his head and steal a game. Thomas seems incapable of doing that.
