Lugo may be done for the yr. Not sure if thats a bad thing for you guys. It might give Lowrie enough rope to win the job for good.

I'm sure it's a good thing. I guess Lugo was one of Manny's boys but besides that he really brought nothing to the table. Mediocre D, below average bat.

Cora does well as a fill in. I wouldn't want a situation where he's the main guy at either 2nd or 3rd, but I never freak out when he's in the line-up.

I've been wondering the same thing. A trade is unlikely even if they eat most of the salary. I don't see any teams out there that desperate for a SS. Maybe he will be an add on in some sort of trade, but it won't be easy.

 

Option 2, they could just out right release him and eat the contract and move on.

 

Option 3, this is the most likeyl, Lugo becomes the most expensive bench player, and they plug him in whenever someone needs a break.

he is better than Cora IMO, so keeping him around as a bench player isnt a bad idea. He can play all 3 non 1b infield positions and can also play the OF. So he could carve out about 80-100 games in relief of a bunch of guys. Plus his speed would be nice off the bench. I dunno if he'd be cool with that, though and theo seems to like to deal away potential problems. One team that kinda fits is Minnesota, but the sox would have to eat a lot of salary in order to get anything in return.
