The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network reports that the Orioles have traded Chad Bradford to the Rays for a player to be named later.

The Rays were awarded a waiver claim on Bradford, and it's pretty surprising nobody tried to block the move. The righty has a 2.45 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in 40 1/3 innings for the Orioles this season, and is under contract for $3.5 million next year.

im a little surprised the Sox didnt try to block Bradford rather than Giles. Sure he didn't have a great go-around with the team the first time around but he's still a solid reliever

Bradford is a streaky little bugger. He also is the type of guy who seems to have many off yrs mixed in with his good yrs. A long term deal for a guy like that is kinda pointless. He'd be a good 2 month rental, but owing a middle reliever 3.5 mil when they cannot get a lefty out is kinda pointless. I think the sox held back because of their experience with him in the past. He and Myers were on the team and they were essentially one batter relievers and nowadays, you need to have a pen that can go the full inning.

but blocking menas taking on the entire contract and needing to free up a roster space if the Orioles said, take him. Blocking does not come without consequence. If the team that put the player on waivers says, you can have him, then you get the contract.
