Lowell had a monster contract year and he is bound to regress after that. The question is how much? If it is pre 2005 - that will be BAD.

Lowell was having a great year until his recent slump

Is it? I don't have stats in front but I would have thought he has been up and down?

I'll take the outs the way Lowell made them. Line drive up the middle, nine times out of ten two runs come home there.

Thanks for the intro ORS. Last years offense was just good enough and the team was lucky enough to somehow hold on the Yankees and get the homefield advantage against Cleveland. Lucky is nice - but I don't count on that all the time. The team also got great spark from Ellsbury in the play-offs. I think we have opportunities to improve in the line-up.

I have been pretty consistent here in spite of all the insults that we lack a power bat this year. And if the Sox wins it all and makes me a fool of myself - I will be the happiest one.

And your standard for comparison remains a bad one. The run scoring environment of the game changes over time, and from year to year. How good an offense is should only be compared against their peers in a given year. That is, if you are trying to assess their strengths relative to the league, which is the point in determining where to spend resources.

Now, if you want to get into an interesting comparison of offenses across eras, then you can start harkening back to specific lineups. But that is not how you determine if your offense is "good" or "bad".

Kevin, Kevin, Kevin... TAKE PITCHES when a speedster is on first base!! Just sit on your bat for the first pitch.

His defense is fantastic - no question about that. Not sure he will hit consistently for the next 3 years.

Neither am I, but there's a difference between a career year and a fluke. What Lowell had last year was a career year. His normal level is probablt 2006

Well, we cleared both pitchers and now we're back to productive members of the lineup again.

as long as he can keep hitting around 280 with 20 bombs and around 90 RBI's, and keep playing his great defense ,he's worth the contract

Only two more years after this year, which is 75% done.

I get the sense Ortiz is sulking about Manny being traded. He looks totally disinterested out there. Maybe it's just me.

From what I've seen since Lugo went down, Lowrie can hang at SS. Now we need to work on CF and C, and we'll be set up the middle for a little while.

Or he is hurt - or his regime as the clutchest hitter in Sox history is over.

Coming back to Lowell - I think it is easier to move him in the offseason. May be we can get Texeria and move Youk to 3rd. I like Bay - but he is not Manny. We need a real slugger - like Adam Dunn. Though he is not even close to Manny in terms of clutch.
