Haven't checked' date=' but IIRC he was barely in 6th place and the top 5 were considerably better than Youk. I'd still consider him 6th-best in MLB. ;)[/quote']

Top 5 what? 1B? or are you saying players (huh)? RH hitters (nah)?

Back at the beginning of the year, I loved seeing this from our 1 and 2 hitters as I followed the game on GameCast:

J Ellsbury walked

J Ellsbury stole second

D Pedroia singled to left, J Ellsbury scored

Seemed like it happened with pretty good frequency. But I could really get used to this:

D Pedroia singled to left

K Youkilis homered to left, D Pedroia scored

That is wholly adequate.

huuh? 3rd best in the majors? What about Pujols, Howard, Berkman, Morneau, Cabrera, D Lee, Teixeira, Fielder, etc? Sure, Youk is having a comparable season to those guys, but this is the first time Youk has put up numbers like this, where as all the guys above have been doing it for a while.

In the AL, sure, I'll go 3rd or 4th best. In the majors... not so much. That doesn't mean I don't absolutely love the guy.

Well, cheez, usually the folks who rant about demanding "proof" are far less reasonable than yourself...;)

OK, you cited 3rd or 4th best in the AL. Let's look at leaders by VORP as of yesterday morning:
RANK | NAME | TEAM | VORP

1 | Lance Berkman | HOU | 66.2

2 | Albert Pujols | SLN | 58.9

3 | Justin Morneau | MIN | 40.4

4 | Kevin Youkilis | BOS | 35.0

5 | Conor Jackson | ARI | 32.8

6 | Mark Teixeira | ATL | 32.3

7 | Adrian Gonzalez | SDN | 32.3

8 | Prince Fielder | MIL | 29.4

9 | Miguel Cabrera | DET | 28.7

10 | Jason Giambi | NYA | 25.5

11 | Derrek Lee | CHN | 23.1

12 | Carlos Delgado | NYN | 21.3

13 | James Loney | LAN | 19.2

14 | Lyle Overbay | TOR | 15.2

15 | Adam LaRoche | PIT | 14.8

16 | Ryan Howard | PHI | 14.7

17 | Casey Kotchman | ANA | 13.5

18 | Sean Casey | BOS | 12.3

19 | Carlos Pena | TBA | 11.2

20 | Mike Jacobs | FLO | 11.2

21 | Joey Votto | CIN | 10.9

22 | Christopher Davis | TEX | 10.8

23 | Kevin Millar | BAL | 10.4

24 | Todd Helton | COL | 9.6

25 | Dmitri Young | WAS | 8.2

26 | Chad Tracy | ARI | 7.7

27 | Nick Johnson | WAS | 7.6
The two superstars this year are Berkman and Pujols, but Youk should be near Morneau for third place in MLB once today's stats come out.

What a f***ing game to be at!!

Lester started rough but once the doble play was turned, I knew their lead wouldnt last long. The Sox bats came back in a hurry with 2 HRs, Yooouk and J-Bay connecting for his first jack as a Red Sox :) . He is isntantly becoming a favorite, already seeing a flurry of people with his jersey on. I even got a bay t-shirt of my own. Lester continues to pitch like the ace has been this season. 15 Ws is def achievable

The team just seems different since Manny left (true just 2 games), hopefully Dice finds a good groove and the lineup continues to get their niche. Oh and Im going to be depressed when Lugo comes back from the DL, Lowrie needs to be the starting shortstop!

Dane Eveland (1 game vs Boston, 0-1 with a 40.50 ERA---Career at Fenway Park in 1 game, 0-1 with a 40.50 ERA)

Dustin Pedroia, 1 for 2 (.500 avg)

Kevin Youkilis, 1 for 2 (.500 avg) HR, 2 RBIs

David Ortiz, 1 for 2 (.500 avg)

Mike Lowell, 2 for 2 (1.000 avg) Double

Jason Bay, 1 for 1 (1.000 avg) HR, 3 RBIs, Walk

J.D. Drew, 1 for 2 (.500 avg) K

Jed Lowrie, 1 for 1 (1.000 avg) Double, 3 RBIs, Walk

Jason Varitek, 0 for 1

Coco Crisp, 0 for 1, K

///

Sean Casey, 1 for 2 (.500 avg) Walk

Jon Lester (6 games vs Oakland, 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA---Career at Fenway Park in 26 games, 11-2 with a 3.68 ERA)

Ryan Sweeney, 2 for 5 (.400 avg) K

Kurt Suzuki, 2 for 9 (.222 avg) 2 Walks, K

Emil Brown, 5 for 17 (.294 avg) 2 HRs, 8 RBIs, 2 Ks

Frank Thomas, 5 for 11 (.455 avg) Walk, K

Mark Ellis, 2 for 12 (.167 avg) 4 Walks, 3 Ks

Carlos Gonzalez, 0 for 3, K

Jack Hannahan, 6 for 12 (.500 avg) 2 RBIs, 4 Ks

Bobby Crosby, 1 for 9 (.111 avg) Double, 3 Walks, K

Daric Barton, 2 for 9 (.222 avg) 2 Doubles, 2 Walks

///

Eveland this season on the road in 10 games, 2-5 with a 5.81 ERA

DFA Cora when Lugo is back. Lugo and Lowrie should share the load going forward.
