Kotchman is better than anything the sox had to offer. Casey is a solid defensive 1b who is just starting to hit for power. He's 25 and under contract for awhile. AND, everyone knows this is a rental. The Braves would not allow a window for extension and with Boras around, you better believe he hits the market.

edit: This whole Teixeira deal was a huge clusterf*** on the part of Wren. He turned Salty, Harrison, Andrus and Feliz into a year of decent production from Tex, Kotchman, and Marek (who doesn't even project as a SP).
