The history between these two has been well-documented, but the more I got to thinking, I really wish they would have gone after each other Friday night. In '04, the A-Rod v. Varitek fight seemed to ignite something in the Sox and I believe went a long way to World Series win.

This team is so talented, but is mostly devoid of the passion of the '04 Idiots. If this team had the fire in their belly, the Sox would be the story of the Majors and there would be no stories about the Angels, Rays...

I hope Youk gets the chance to teach Joba's young ass a thing or two.

your thoughts?

1. You say they're showing no passion because Youk didn't charge Joba. What about Coco charging at Shields? Furthermore, do you really want the Sox to face the kind of wrath MLB would reap upon them for starting two bench-clearing brawls in a season?

2. If the Sox had a "fire in their belly", how would that affect the records of the Rays or Angels?

3. I don't care if they have the passion of the '04 Idiots or not but they seem to have the passion of the '07 Champions

Maybe because Joba would serve his suspension during his "rest days" and Youk would actually miss some games. The AL East is extremely competitive right now and I don't think the Sox would want to be missing one of their starters for three or more games at this point, not to mention any injuries that could occur as a result of a fight. Besides, Youk would have to deal with not only Joba, but get through 6'2", 215 pounds of Molina first.

I agree that the 04 fight definitely lit a fire under their asses. It was badass to see and definitely added a lot to the rivalry.

But right now I think the team would suffer more from a Youk suspension (and whatever other suspensions result) than from the fire gained from a fight.

Joba looks like he would kill Youk in a fight.

Youk looks as if he would fight dirty, perhaps by kicking Joba in the nuts to start the fight. :dunno:

in the end, I've always believed the Nomar trade was the turning point of the '04 season rather than the Yankee brawl, so maybe a Manny trade would light that proverbial fire under their ass this year. Pointing to the brawl as the turning point just makes the '04 season a more interesting story for the media, kinda like how they say Heath Ledger killed himself cause the Joker role drove him crazy

If Youk wanted to fight, he would have after being thrown at for the 5th time. Joba obviously is challenging Youk, but Youk as well as I think would get his ass kicked by Joba (looks like he can fight). But a lot of good points brought up in this thread, such as we need Youkilis right now as well as MLB would not look well on us if we started another brawl. But tehre are otehr ways to stop Joba from doing this, I say for every time Youk gets plunked, we plunk A-Rod i.e. Hansen the other day.

The other night when I was all fired up about Joba throwing at Youk , I was hoping Youk would have went and kicked his ass.

Once I calmed down, I realized Youk took the high road. I am glad he did because I think the team would suffer more at this point with the repercussions (suspensions, etc. ) if there would have been a fight.

Although I still would have liked to see Youk put the shitbag in his place.

Youk needs to grow a pair - plain and simple. The only guy on the Sox with a pair is Lowell!

Youk would DESTROY Joba.

Exactly what are you basing this on?

According to ESPN's tale of the tape:

Joba: 6-2 230 LBS

Youk: 6-1 210 LBS

Pretty even to me. Farnsworth kicks anyone's ass on either side. The one guy on either team I would be most scared to fight.

So Yankees fans refer to self-restraint in the team's best interest as "Needing to grow a pair?"

I don't think that Big Papi's wrist is that injured. Of course, YMMV.

Farnsworth is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and has brawled numerous times, most notably kicking the crap out of Paul Wilson. I saw that game. Papi wouldn't stand a chance. Neither would anyone else on both teams or probably the whole league.

Trust me on this one.

You clearly haven't seen Papi's rounding first kung fu stance have you?

Wasn't that on the Spice channel?

Farnsworth bodyslammed a guy in a fight then proceeded to pummel his face in. He's huge, he's crazy, and he is strong. Papi is a lover, not a fighter.

Farnsworth is, IIRC, an 8th Degree Dan Black Belt. David Ortiz, however, is very, very big...don't read his listed weight without laughing...and he has the reflexes of an elite MLB batter. Furthermore, he came from poverty in the DR...I think that he learned how to fight, too, although his training academy didn't give out black belts, maybe because the kids where Big Papi grew up were lucky just to afford belts.

But I still might've trusted you, Gom, except for that bit about your link to support your words being dead. ;)
