Hahahahahahahahaha

Ten bucks on a brawl starting when he throws his helmet at Paps during the late July series.

I believe he can be signed for the league minimum of $390,000, prorated for the remainder of the season. Seattle is on the hook for the remainder of his $15M salary for 08, something along the lines of $6M I think.

It's low cost' date=' but when he hits .211 over a 3 or week period and leaves a ton of guys on base, it will not be low risk.[/quote']

Assuming Sexon will only see the field against lefties, and considering the alternatives at first base (Betemit and Giambi) hit LHP at .235 and .229 repectively, i don't see the risk.

I like this move from the Yanks perspective. One of the things they have issues with is LHP.

Sexson 2008 v. LHP (SSS caveat):

.344/.423/.623/.1.045

Career v. LHP:

.265/.369/.510/.879

Better than Betemit, provides some pop against lefties for the league minimum? Good move.

The Yankees need someone who can hit lefties...Sexson has done that this season. Good move for the Yanks, I'd say.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Oh well, $390,000 is pocket change for this team and it's not like the offense could get much worse.

Who will sit when Sexson plays... Giambi? His career splits against lefties is .269/.384/.473/.857. Where's the big improvement?

Sexson is a better 1b than Giambi, so I would assume that Giambi goes to DH when we face a lefty. Betemit hits lefties pretty poorly and it doesnt sound like we're getting Matsui back anytime soon. I like the move, but I am not banking on it being worthwhile.

Do you expect Posada to catch most games? I think he will get a lot of time at DH. Are you thinking that Posada will catch against lefties so Giambi and Sexson can both play?

Sexson could play first and Giambi could DH or vice versa. This is a pretty smart move by the Yankees in my opinion. Remember, Matsui is likely done for the year so they need as much offense as possible, not to mention a lot of their hitters struggle against lefties. He's being paid very little, and he's not going to play against righties. I'm not saying this is a greatest move ever and they're going to win a championship because they got Richie Sexson, but I don't see how you can say it's a bad move...

hes another underachieving high priced *******

since theyve made ponson and richie sexon yankees, i assume theyre packing it in for the summer.

the trade bait they do have lost a lot of its value in 4 short months of failure.

i assume the ceiling is high for phil hughes but ian kennedy isnt going to get you much since hes sucked so bad.

i dont know what cashman is thinking,i dont know what the fredo brothers are thinking either but if theyre packing it in they should bring a youngster up to give him some time.

if they are indeed trying to make the playoffs then victor zambrano shouldnt be on audition after getting waived by the rockies with a 9.00 era in the minors...sexon and boom boom ponson would be the last guys i would reach out to for help in any case...

Right because Ponson had pitched so poorly this year before he joined the Yankees and he's been just awful with the Yankees...

1.64 WHIP?

I never said it would last. All I'm saying is that despite his very high WHIP he has had some pretty good results so far this year.

He's been terrible this year. In the 17 innings he's pitched.

I was also referring to his time with the Rangers when he had an ERA+ of 106. Also, during his time with the Yankees, he had two very good starts and one poor start, all three of which they won. From your number five starter, that's far from awful. Granted, his WHIP is probably not going to translate into a great deal of future success, but so far this year, terrible is not the proper way to describe his results.
