Red Sox right fielder J.D. Drew today was named the American League Player of the Month for June.

Drew, who had an 11-game hitting streak during the month, hit a major-league best 12 home runs in 26 games, batted .337 (31-for-92), and finished the month with 29 RBI, to tie him for the major league high with Chicago's Jermaine Dye.

The 32-year-old outfielder had 21 extra-base hits, including seven doubles and two triples, and scored 27 runs with a major league-best .848 slugging percentage.

The Georgia native's 12 homers were the third most ever by a Red Sox player in June and the

most by a major leaguer for June since Andruw Jones of the Braves hit 13 home runs in 2005. Drew's 12 were the most in the AL for June since Garret Anderson went deep 12 times for the Angels in 2003.

This is the first time in his career that Drew has received a monthly league award.

If only he would CARE.

He definitely deserved it. We'd be in a much worse place were it not for Drew. He earned his salary for once.
