That was some AB for Cash. He hit that one a long way after fouling off some pitches. He's earned some additional playing time, and the rest couldn't hurt Tek.

ESPN taking a poll on best left handed pitchers.

I say Warren Spahn.

Discuss?

Sandy Koufax

Agreed.

Papelbon needs more cheap saves. :D

I wouldn't have brought Paps in there, but I guess with the offday tomorrow it doesn't hurt.

Good game tonight, but god damn, I've now realized, since I'm, like, 6'2" or so, the grandstand seats at Fenway are so f***ing small.

OK...before everybody goes all "Sandy Koufax" on me, remember:

1) Koufax had a short career;

2) Koufax pitched in a pitcher's park in a pitcher's league in a pitcher's era--he didn't look so great before he reached Dodger Stadium;

3) Grove was a great pitcher for years in AAA before they'd sell his contract at age 25--he was a great pitcher then, too, regardless for whom he pitched, even if it's tough to find the stats;

4) Grove played in hitter's parks in an extreme hitter's era; and

5) Grove STILL reached 300 wins.

Career ERA+: Grove 148 (second all-time); Koufax 131 (32nd all-time)

Koufax may have had the greater peak value; Grove had the greater career value.

I agree, JHB. And, it's really a shame Grove got stuck in Baltimore due to the way the leagues were run at the time. Had he signed with a club with MLB affiliations, he probably gets about 1/2 of the 100+ wins he had in Baltimore added to his career win total.

holy crap' date=' what a black hole 6-9 is going to be tonight[/quote']

Thankfully you were mistaken, 5 RBI from 7 and 8 hitters! Way to be Moss and Cash! :D

indeed I was, and I'm glad I was proven wrong. I also don't think you can say enough about Tim Wakefield tonight. We definitely take the guy for granted but he's so valuable to the rotation when you really think about it

I hear ya. Wake IS so valuable to the rotation, nice to see him get some run support.

Thank Gawd only 3 more games in an NL park.

Then TB and NY back to back, should be good series, I'm psyched!
