I remember the All Star team at Yankee Stadium in 1977. I am pretty sure that the entire Red Sox OF ---Yaz' date=' Rice and Lynn made the team in addition to Fisk, Burleson and Eckersley. I don't recall any of them getting booed. So, did I expect anything different? Yes, I did. I thought they might get booed during the intros, but not during the game. I thought Papelbon would get a hard time, but I didn't expect the derisive chanting while he was pitching, because he was pitching for the home team in Yankee Stadium alongside Yankees. It was something that I had never witnesses at any All Star game at any stadium... ever... not even at Yankee Stadium in 1977 when the rivalry was red hot between fans and players. I didn't expect booing at the presentation of the MVP trophy. I have never witnessed booing of an award presentation after any sporting event. Yankee fans demonstrated for all those who watched that not only are they not the greatest fans in the world, but that they are extremely poor sports, maybe the worst of any fan base.[/quote']

Well I wasn't alive in 1977 so I'll have to take your word on it. Look, I'm with you on the booing thing. I thought it was pretty stupid, especially for Drew after he hit the home run and won the MVP. I think my only real point is that this is a very small issue that really doesn't deserve this much attention.

Well...Torre was cheered because he was coming back from being out with cancer' date=' so it really wasn't just a show of respect but I give the Sox fans credit regardless. However, when Mo was cheered it was very mocking because he had blown two saves against the Red Sox the week before.[/quote']

Did Yankee fans cheer Jon Lester a few weeks back? He had cancer too.

The cheers were for the blown saves in the 2004 ALCS, when the blown saves REALLY mattered. Mo was a great sport about it. I've liked him ever since.

Just what I was thinking. If he had pitched in the AS game, they would have boo'd him just like everyone else.....tool bags! :thumbdown

Manny's fine wildly overstated

Posted by Gordon Edes, Globe Staff July 18, 2008 03:46 PM

Manny Ramirez was disciplined by the Red Sox in the aftermath of his June 28 altercation in Houston with Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick in an agreement struck among the club, the player and his agent, Scott Boras, and the players' union.

According to industry sources, Ramirez, in addition to apologizing to McCormick, paid a fine of between $10,000 to $15,000, with the money going to an agreed-upon charity. The fine is at the lower end of that range.Reports that Ramirez had been assessed a six-figure fine are not true, and Red Sox officials have not raised the issue that Ramirez's strikeout against Mariano Rivera in a pinch-hit appearance July 6 was in any way related to the discipline administered.

Also, while Ramirez expressed some frustration this week about his contract status, all parties involved have recognized that the Sox do not intend to address the issue of his 2009 and 2010 option years until after the season. The Sox hold $20 million options on Ramirez for each season.

Asked to comment about the reports of the fine, Red Sox chairman Tom Werner e-mailed this: "Having discussed this, our response is that this will continue to be an internal matter.''

Whether or not Lobel takes it in the ass......sounds like he is an ass and has it out for Manny.

Manny should be suspended by the team.

This has nothing to do with the race, et al.

You request tickets, the request may not be fulfilled.

There is no excuse. None whatsoever. He pushed a man in his 60's to the ground. Unlike the Zimmer thing, where Zimmer went after Pedro in a baseball fight, there is absolutely no excuse for what he did.

I was hoping the Sox would let him go at the end of the season and we'd get a crack at him. Best thing Theo can do is trade him to Kansas City or Seattle. Let him see what it's like to play in games that don't mean s***. Maybe the Pirates would take him for Nady and Fuentes.

Look, I'm not really defending the Yankee fans. I give the Red Sox fans credit because they showed a great deal of respect for Torre. I just thought that you were trying to portray it like there was no specific reason why they were cheering...my mistake.

Well, I don't know, I think it was probably a little bit of both. My point was that the Red Sox fans were not, in my opinion, cheering him as a showing of respect.

3. A break from Julio Lugo.. this guy busts my chops like noone else the worst short stop since kaz matsui. If Lowrie can give us anything we may not have to suffer with him much longer... Maybe some of you guys are Lugo fans but this is just my opinon he irks me.

I think it is now universely agreed that Lugo signing was bad. I still think Cora should go first.

4. Teky is clearly not the hitter he was but he calls a great game still, Drew is performing.

Kottaras looks ready - I seriously hope this is the last season with Tek.

5. Beckett hasn't been outstanding yet the rotation is still servicable.

Just servicable? I would say outstanding, I admit I never thought Lester would turn it around. And as you said = Becket has not been great.

5. The bench minus Moss and Casey... I miss Hinske and Red headed Bobby Kielty.

I think bench was worse last year but I am not again excited about bench. Cora should not be in a ML team.

But again - may be next year he will go to Tampa and will become an all star.

I will grade this team B+ - This team has gone through lots of injuries - but someone always has stepped up. I think that they need to be more consistent to get through the whole season.

My family is actually VERY VERY close to Susan. Lobel is a cock sucker in every sense of the term. Not only does he suck at what he does professionally, he also has no knowledge of how to treat women. He's a douche bag. Just the thought of him pisses me off, especially because I know more about him than what I see from the TV.

Fuentes pitches for Colorado.

I ask again - what good does a suspension do? Dude was fined and the matter was handled internally.

Show me what good comes from a suspension.
