Per rotoworld, Kelvim Escobar may miss the season after learning that he has a tear in his shoulder, which may require surgery. If this is true, Lackey will miss 6-8 weeks and Escobar the season, leaving a rotation of Weaver, Garland, Moseley, Santana and Saunders. Couple that with their continued anemic offense and the emergence of the Mariners in the West, and I dont think the Angels have much of a shot.

Tough break for Escobar. He had a really good year last year.

Hope Lackey isn't out longer than 6-8 weeks. He's on my fantasy team in a money league I'm in.

Still can't believe the Angels gave up O-Cab straight up for Jon Garland. Unbelievable.

Mariners are going to be a good team this season( Bedard/Felix is probably the best LHP/RHP combo in the league.), and Oakland could be a thorn in the Angels side. LAA looks to have some major chinks in there armor.

Seems like a good move in hindsight, no?

Eh, I don't know. Garland is a good pitcher and will be one of the key guys to stabilize the rotation in the mean time until Lackey gets back healthy again, but I just think Cabrera is a heckuva player who is consistently way undervalued. He brings so many intangibles to the table and was a part of their running game as well. They'll miss him.

Their 2 best starters are hurt. One for the season. How is the deal not good in hindsight? Without the deal, their rotation now is Weaver, Saunders, Santana, Moseley, Adenhart. Thats bad. Not to mention you used intangibles in an argument.

Garland will be fine if Scioscia and pitching coach Mike Butcher (had to go to the Angels' website to look that one up) leave him alone.

His first few years with the White Sox, manager Jerry Manuel and pitching coach Nardi Contreras jerked him around. They had a very quick hook with him, almost always pulling him in the 6th or 7th if a runner was on. Ozzie Guillen and Don Cooper were more willing to let him try to get out of late inning jams.

Nardi may have been a poor pitching coach with the white sox, but he is a solid developer of young pitchers. The work he has done with Hughes, Kennedy, Joba and the dominican kids is spectacular.
